This is the heart-warming story of St. Anthony of Padua (1195-1231). The son of a well-to-do Portuguese family. He was first ordained a priest, but later, in 1221, he decided to become a poor Franciscan friar and devoted his life to fervent preaching. His extensive knowledge of Holy Writ and keen insights into its profound spiritual meaning astonished his hearers. To confirm his words, God gave him the gifts of prophecy and of working miracles. Anthony was declared to be a Doctor of the Church in 1946.
