Ven. Augustine Baker was a Catholic priest in a 17th century England, and as such was regularly in danger. Nevertheless he was able to put together this collection of ascetical treatises.
Baker's work is organized into three treatises in which he:
I) Advises Christians to live an internal life with God as their guide.
II) Describes the process of mortification, whereby one can conquer the inclination to sin.
III) Discourses on the different forms of prayer and meditation and their usefulness.
