About Coral Spawning Tracker
The Coral Spawning Tracker is a reference and visualization tool designed specifically for coral restoration practitioners, marine scientists, and ecologists. It provides a mobile interface for the open-source Indo-Pacific Coral Spawning Database, allowing researchers to access historical spawning data and utilize it more readily.
The application aggregates decades of ecological observations into a searchable format to assist in the scheduling of field research, data collection, and reef restoration operations. Users can query the database using geographic parameters and taxonomic filters to determine historical spawning occurrences relative to lunar cycles.
Features:
• Interactive Map: Geographic visualization of historical spawning data across the Indo-Pacific region.
• Taxonomic and Temporal Filters: Sort observations by coral genus or species, specific calendar months, exact days relative to the full moon, and observation methodology (in situ versus ex situ).
• Radius Search: Select a coordinate on the global map and define a search radius (1 to 1000 kilometers) to aggregate localized spawning records.
• Data Summaries: Visual distributions of lunar phase occurrences and genus diversity within a defined geographic search area.
• PDF Export: Generate a local document containing the mapped search radius, statistical distribution charts, and a chronological timetable of historical spawning events.
• CSV Export: Export raw query results as CSV files for external analysis.
• Species Reference: CC-licensed imagery of coral species for taxonomic reference and a direct link to the WoRMS database for further study.
This tool is developed by REEF Scuba to centralize complex marine data for the scientific and conservation communities.
DATA ATTRIBUTION & COMPLIANCE: This application utilizes and visualizes data from the open-source Indo-Pacific Coral Spawning Database. By using this application, you are exploring thousands of aggregated field observations collected by global researchers.
