Nekhor

Nekhor—“pilgrimage” in Tibetan, or literally “circling the sacred”—is dedicated to connecting practitioners, pilgrims, and curious travelers with the sacred sites where awakened Buddhist masters lived, practiced, taught, and where they benefited countless beings.

An initiative of Samye Translations and part of the Samye Mandala, Nekhor is built upon more than a decade of research and study of Buddhist sacred sites. Through the app, we are delighted to share this growing treasury of knowledge, making the sacred geography of Buddhism more accessible than ever before.

Beginning with Buddha Shakyamuni, the source of all Buddhist traditions, and Guru Padmasambhava, one of the most influential figures in Tibetan Buddhism, Nekhor invites you to explore the landscapes that shaped the Dharma and continue to inspire practitioners today.

With the Nekhor app, you can:
• Discover significant Buddhist pilgrimage sites

• Explore detailed historical, cultural, and spiritual information

• Navigate to exact locations associated with the Buddha, Guru Padmasambhava, and other great masters

• Learn about sacred places of meditation, teachings, miracles, and realization

• Deepen your understanding of Buddhist heritage through carefully researched content

Designed to support both pilgrimage and study, Nekhor combines authentic research, location-based guidance, and rich storytelling to help you connect with the places that have shaped Buddhist history and practice.

Our vision is to create an ever-expanding repository of sacred sites connected to the buddhas, bodhisattvas, and awakened masters whose lives and teachings continue to inspire the world. As our research grows, so too will Nekhor, becoming an increasingly comprehensive resource for discovering and exploring Buddhist sacred sites around the globe.

Whether you are planning a pilgrimage, studying Buddhist history, or seeking inspiration on the path, Nekhor brings the sacred journey to your fingertips.
