About AudioReader
Paste it. Load it. Hear it. Own it — forever.
AudioReader turns text into speech — paste it directly, share text in from any app, or load a file (.txt, .md, and other plain-text formats). No subscription. No account. No ads.
Why AudioReader is different
Many text-to-speech apps rely on subscriptions or free trials. AudioReader takes a different approach: pay once, and it’s yours, with every feature included. The purchase works across compatible devices signed in to the same Google account.
Built for real documents, not just quick snippets
AudioReader handles genuinely long text — whole novels, even multi-volume classics, hours of listening, not just a quick paragraph. Load a .md file — your notes, project docs, or anything else you've written — and have it read aloud. Developers, writers, and anyone sitting on a massive markdown file will find it just works. Load a whole Bible, a thick history, or a hefty reference volume in one go.
Free books to listen to
Project Gutenberg offers more than 75,000 free books, mostly classics in the public domain in the US, available as plain-text (.txt) files. Download one from gutenberg.org in your browser, then open it in AudioReader and listen. AudioReader is not affiliated with or endorsed by Project Gutenberg.
What it does
- Paste, share in, or load long text and have it read aloud
- Follow along as it reads, with the current line highlighted
- Pause and pick up right where you left off, even after closing the app
- Skip forward or back through your text
- Adjustable reading speed
- Pick from any voice installed on your device — grouped by language and given friendly names. AudioReader flags voices that may not play smoothly on your device
- Voices come from your device's speech engine. Additional voices are available through Google's free speech engine, which may already be installed or can be downloaded from Google Play
- Customize font style and size for comfortable reading
- Keeps playing when you lock your phone or switch apps — with full playback controls right in your notification shade
- Works with Bluetooth headphones and car steering-wheel buttons
- Pauses for phone calls and picks up again when the call ends
- Save your text out to a file with Save as
- Your text, voice choice, and reading position are saved automatically
Your privacy, respected
No account, no login, no data collection. AudioReader has no internet access at all — it doesn't even request internet permission — so nothing you paste or load can be uploaded or tracked by the app. However, some speech engines offer network-based voices that may send text to their provider for processing. To keep everything on your device, choose an offline voice.
One price. No subscription. No ads. Yours on every device, for good.
