About Faretide: Drive Time & Ferries

The closest restaurant on the map can be the slowest one to reach.

Faretide finds nearby restaurants and ranks them by real travel time, not map distance. Where geography distorts the drive — islands, ferry crossings, bridges, and bays — the spot that looks closest is often the slowest to reach. Faretide fixes that by sorting places by how long they actually take to get to.

The problem Faretide solves
On a map, a restaurant four miles across the water looks close. In real life it can mean a scheduled ferry — one you might just miss — or an hour-plus drive around the bay, while a place that looks farther is a quick bridge drive. Straight-line distance can't see the water. Travel time can — so Faretide ranks by travel time.

How it works
• Rank by travel time — nearby restaurants sorted by real drive time, including ferry and bridge crossings.
• Flip to distance — tap the Distance sort to compare what the map shows against what's actually fast, and watch the list turn inside out.
• Trap alerts — when a place looks close but is slow to reach, Faretide flags it so you don't take the bait.
• Ferry-aware routes — routes that use a ferry are called out, so a crossing never surprises you.

Made for distorting geography
Faretide is built for travel where distance lies:
• Islands and ferry towns
• Bridge, drawbridge, and causeway crossings
• Bays, sounds, rivers, and long stretches of coastline
• Anywhere the short way on the map is the long way in real life

Who it's for
Island visitors, ferry riders, boaters, RVers, road-trippers, and second-home owners who know a map can send you the wrong way. If you've ever missed a ferry or driven miles out of your way to eat, Faretide is for you. It's especially at home in ferry-and-bridge country like Dauphin Island, Alabama.

Private by design
• No account — no sign-up or login, ever.
• No ads, no tracking — no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking SDKs.
• No data sale — we never sell your data.
• Foreground location only — Faretide uses your location just while the app is open, only to rank nearby restaurants.

A sorting tool, not another reviews app
Faretide doesn't do reviews, photos, reservations, or social feeds. It does one thing well: give you an honest answer to "what's actually closest to reach right now?" Restaurants first.
