About ICLA
ICLA — International Cognitive Learning Assessment
ICLA is a cognitive profile test for elementary and middle school students. This thinking skills assessment measures how a student takes in information, finds rules, applies logic, and extends ideas in new directions.
Four cognitive areas
• Information Intake — attention, working memory, and organizing new information
• Inductive Reasoning — finding patterns, rules, and relationships across examples
• Deductive Reasoning — applying rules and logic to reach valid conclusions
• Creative Extension — flexible thinking, functional transfer, and realistic new ideas
Levels and formats
• Level 1 — Grades 1–2
• Level 2 — Grades 3–4
• Level 3 — Grades 5–6
• Level 4 — Grade 7 and up
Each level has 32 multiple-choice questions, 8 per area. Younger levels use pictures and symbols to keep the language load light; higher levels add more abstract reasoning tasks. Difficulty rises in a structured way from Level 1 to Level 4.
