About Twhirleds
The Twhirleds app senses orientation of the mobile device, and can be used as a gestural interface for collateral software (available from the developers web site) for multimodal interfaces, including augmented virtuality scenes, panoramic and photo-spherical browsing, and spatial sound renderers. Static pointing can be used to control such modulation, but by embedding a mobile device (such as a tablet or smartphone) running Twhirleds into a twirlable affordance enables “padiddle’”-style interfaces, spinning flatish objects, and “poi”-style interfaces, whirling tethered devices.
What’s new
Version 3.8 · Updated October 21, 2026
The phone as a witness microphone: • New "Mic Levels to Bridge" switch in Settings, off by default. While it is on and the app is in front, sound levels and onset times — never audio — go to the bridge address you entered, and nowhere else. A banner shows while it runs. • The sensor stream now survives backgrounding, and the tone self-test measures through the same microphone path. • Local-network access is explained when iOS asks for it. Gestures now own the clock: • The MIDI clock follows your gesture — conduct the tempo by hand, with bar mode for whole-bar beats; a gesture interrupts and re-arms cleanly. • The MIDI output slot you choose is remembered between launches. • The bundled tune is now "Annie Lisle (Cayuga)", transcribed from the 1857 score; the app no longer opens playing a tune nobody chose. • Send switches can be turned off again, and stale rows no longer linger. • Location authorization is requested when it is needed. • Credits refreshed.
