About EarSight – Music Theory

EarSight helps you make sense of harmony: what a chord is, what it's doing in its key, and where a progression is headed. Beside it are the tools you keep by your instrument: a tuner, a metronome and a drone. - Progression analysis: enter a progression, see what each chord does and where the key changes. - Progression builder: turn an idea into a progression. - Chord reading: enter notes or a chord, see what it is and what's near it. - Tuner: play a note, see which it is and how far off. Chromatic or by string. - Metronome: accents, subdivisions, swing and polyrhythms. - Drone: hold a note or chord to play over, and see what each note does above it. It reads chords the way standard tonal theory does, extensions and slash chords included. When a progression can be heard more than one way, it shows you each reading. Notes can be named in letters (C, D, E) or in Do Re Mi. EarSight works offline, with no account, no tracking and nothing to buy. What you build stays on your phone.

What’s new

Version 1.3 · Updated November 2, 2026

EarSight now runs on iPad and on iPhone Duo, open or folded, as well as on iPhone. - It's rebuilt with the system's own controls, in three tabs: Chords, Progressions and Practice. On iPad the tabs can open as a sidebar. - On a wide screen, tap a step in an analysis and its chord opens beside it. Two practice tools sit side by side: the Drone with the Metronome or the Tuner, or the Metronome with the Tuner. - Notes and chords are entered on a pad that opens like a keyboard. On iPad, a hardware keyboard has shortcuts for each screen's actions. - Chord reading starts empty, with three example chords in your key, and offers another bass when your notes can be read over one. The Drone's root can be turned off.
