About Speeku: European Portuguese

Portuguese as it is spoken in Portugal, not Brazil. Over 900 short lessons take you from your first Olá to a real conversation, and every one of them works offline. THE PORTUGUESE OF PORTUGAL This course teaches the Portuguese you will hear in Lisbon and Porto: its pronunciation, its tu and its você, o comboio and o pequeno-almoço, estou a falar instead of estou falando. It is written for Portugal from the first lesson, whether you are starting from zero or coming back to it after learning Brazilian Portuguese. WHAT IS INSIDE • More than 900 lessons, from A1 to B1, about eleven exercises each • Over 11,000 exercises of more than 50 kinds: pick the picture, build the sentence, fill the gap, play the scene, fill the verb table, sort into groups and many more • More than 2,500 words and phrases, each practised until you can recall it on your own • Every word and sentence spoken aloud, by six different voices, so your ear learns Portugal's sounds from day one • A dictionary of more than 7,000 entries with European pronunciation and full verb tables, searchable offline • Flashcards built from the words you have learned, which bring back the ones you are closest to forgetting first SAY IT OUT LOUD Speaking drills listen to what you say and check that it was the right word, in more than 70 of the lessons. The checking happens on your iPhone: nothing is recorded, uploaded or kept. It tells you which word it heard; it does not pretend to grade your accent. FOUR STEPS TO EVERY WORD Read it, hear it, say it, recall it. Four new words at a time, and a word is not yours until it has passed all four. The exercises keep changing so the same word never comes back the same way twice, which is why ten exercises go by quickly and the fortieth lesson does not feel like the first. WORKS ANYWHERE, KEEPS NOTHING Start with four lessons a week, every week. One purchase unlocks every lesson for good: no subscription, no ads. Fully offline: the lessons, the dictionary and the speech checking all run on your iPhone, and the app collects no data of any kind. There is a lesson waiting on the plane, in the metro and on a beach with no signal. Your progress stays on your iPhone, and Settings can delete it whenever you like. No streaks to protect and nothing that tells you off for missing a day. Just a short lesson whenever you have ten minutes. The download is larger than most apps because the audio, the speech checking and the dictionary come with it instead of living on a server. One download, and then it works anywhere. Say your first words in Portuguese this evening.

What’s new

Version 1.0.1 · Updated October 27, 2026

A fresh round of polish! We gave hundreds of conversations a makeover, so every chat sounds like something you'd really hear at a café in Lisbon. Some characters got brand-new voices, numbers now sound like real speech, the right answer no longer likes to hide in the same spot, and we fixed a few little bugs. Boa sorte!
