About Ear Training - Relative Pitch

Hear the key, then name the note's role. The key changes every question, so you learn relative pitch, not pitch memory. Every question plays a short cadence to set the key, then one note. You don't name its pitch: you name its role in the key (Do Re Mi... or 1-7) by tapping a rung of the ladder on screen. Because the key changes with every question, memorizing pitches won't get it right. THREE KINDS OF PRACTICE - Scale degrees: which degree the note is, counting from Do (Level 1 Do, Mi, Sol / Level 2 Do to Ti / Level 3 with chromatic notes) - Intervals: the distance between two notes (minor 2nd to octave; ascending, descending or together) - Chords: major, minor, diminished and augmented triads, with inversions AFTER YOU ANSWER - Compare with the answer, hear the resolution back to the tonic, or replay as often as you like (replays never count against you) - Intervals and chords are shown on a keyboard FOCUS ON YOUR WEAK SPOTS - Weak spots again: a 2-choice comparison of the two answers you mixed up, or practice narrowed to 3 or 4 choices including your weak spots. The choices are shown before you start - Practice chosen answers: practice only the answers you pick, such as Mi and Fa only - Comparisons show your accuracy over the last 30 questions HISTORY Accuracy by answer, weekly trends and weekly summaries. NOTATION AND INSTRUMENTS - Degree names: Do Re Mi, numbers, or katakana - Note names: C D E, fixed Do, or Japanese - Transposing instruments: in B flat, in F and in E flat (key names follow your instrument's written key) - Reference A at 440 or 442 Hz, range, cadence length and volume FREE AND PRO Try every level of every practice for free, up to 60 questions in total (this doesn't reset daily). Weak-spot practice can be tried once. Pro is a one-time purchase with no subscription: no question limit, unlimited weak-spot practice, practice in a fixed key or with chosen answers, and your full history. PRIVACY Your practice history and settings stay on this device. To improve the app, only anonymous usage (Google Analytics) and crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) are sent. No ads, no tracking. The app doesn't use the microphone. This is a practice tool, not a hearing test. How things sound depends on your playback setup.
