About Taqwa: Prayer, Quran & Qibla
Taqwa gives you the essentials of the day in one quiet place: prayer times where you are, a takbir or the opening of the adhan at each prayer, the whole Quran to read and listen to, the morning and evening adhkar, and the Qibla. It works offline, costs nothing, shows no adverts and asks for no account. PRAYER TIMES • Times for where you are, from your phone's location or a city you choose from more than 34,000. • Times from the timetable the mosques near you follow. Where Taqwa holds it, it reproduces it and checks it day by day against the published tables: on every day checked, no prayer starts before the published time. Where a timetable is not yet fully checked, Taqwa adds a safety margin; where mosques follow different timetables, it shows cautious times, each prayer once all have begun it; and where no timetable is known, it calculates on the safe side. • Tap the (i) on the Prayer screen to see whose times these are, and About these times for how they are made and checked. Match my mosque looks for your mosque's timetable from two times on its board, and the usual calculation methods (Muslim World League, Egyptian, Karachi, ISNA and more) and a per-prayer adjustment are there too. • Rules for high latitudes, where the night is too short for the usual angles. • A notification for each prayer: a clear tone, a takbir, or the opening of the adhan in a choice of voices, with an optional reminder before it. • A Jumu'ah pill on Friday's Dhuhr, home-screen widgets with today's times and the countdown to the next prayer, and the Hijri date alongside the Gregorian one. • A 24-hour or 12-hour clock, as you prefer. THE QURAN • The complete Uthmani text, in the same script as the Madinah Mushaf, with the traditional page layout when you want to read as from the printed Mushaf. • Translations in English, Arabic tafsir, French, Turkish, Indonesian, Urdu and Bengali, shown under each ayah. • Search across the Arabic text and the translations. • Bookmarks, copy and share, and a card that takes you back to where you stopped. • Recitation by ten reciters, downloaded once per surah and played offline, with lock-screen controls; when a surah ends the next one follows. • During recitation, your phone's own voice can read the translation or tafsir aloud after each ayah, where the phone has a voice for that language. • An ayah-of-the-day widget. QIBLA • A compass pointing to Makkah, with the bearing and distance, and an honest word when the phone's compass cannot be trusted. ADHKAR • The morning and evening adhkar in Arabic, with a translation in your language, each counted on screen. • The Quranic ones recited by your chosen reciter, and a reminder for each set if you want one. TASBEEH • A dhikr counter with the post-prayer set built in. MADE TO BE TRUSTED • No account, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking of any kind. • Your location is used on your phone to calculate times and never sent anywhere. • The internet is used only for recitation: the audio you ask for, and a daily check of the reciter list once you have used it. • Free and open source under the GPL, with every source and licence credited in the app. Available in English, Arabic, French, Turkish, Indonesian, Urdu and Bengali. Prayer times from Taqwa's own engine; the Qibla bearing uses the Adhan library. Quran text from the Tanzil Project. Adhkar texts from OpenDua. Recitations from the Islamic Network, licensed by the reciters for free distribution. Taqwa is not affiliated with the religious authorities whose timetables it follows.
