About Koyonari
Stems and branches count the days, solar terms divide the year, and twelve double-hours divide day from night. We believe that knowing the time brings calm. Built on a calendar that can be recomputed at any time and always comes out the same, Koyonari sets each moment in its place and gives each day a shape you can look back on. Turn the dial Open Koyonari and the dial already rests on this moment: the double-hour, the solar term, the phase of the moon, and the stems and branches of the day. Turn it with a fingertip. Six rings move at their own speeds, with a sound under your finger and a click in your palm. Year, month, day and hour, together with you, make one hexagram. One full turn draws a slip. A slip for this moment Each slip has two sides. The front holds the hexagram of the moment and its commentary. On the back are three things to do today, and each one you finish earns a vermilion seal. At night, leave a line there and add photos from the day. Eight scenes (Daily, Outings, Work and five more) each bring their own things to do. The hexagram comes from the time and from you; the things to do follow the scene. Your natal star Enter a year of birth and Koyonari, turning the year at the Start of Spring, finds your zodiac animal, your star in Nine Star Ki and the Nayin of your year pillar. Add the hour of birth for a natal hexagram, lit up in the atlas. From then on each slip carries your star at its head and a small seal on its back. One object, five finishes Ink Jade, Paper White, Pine, Vermilion and Altar Blue. Sounds are chosen on their own: a dial that ticks in boxwood, pine or brass; a bronze bowl or a stone chime as a slip opens. The slip itself is always Xuan paper. One slip a day, gathered into a year Slips hang in the Daybook, month by lunar month, each with the seals, notes and photos you left on it. Open any one and it comes back as it was, or search them all. The Study opens on three rings you can swipe between: the 24 solar terms, the 64 hexagrams and your Natal Images. Behind them sit the full atlas and a Compendium of classical terms. Signs from the sky, numbers from the hour Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches mark the year, month, day and hour, and the 24 solar terms divide the seasons. Following the Plum Blossom method, the moment becomes an image and the image a hexagram: two trigrams stacked, one changing line, and after the primary hexagram, its relating hexagram. Every step can be traced. Seven ways to draw a slip Moment: time as the warp, you as the weft. Inquiry: write down one question. The same words in the same double-hour give the same hexagram. Spin: set the upper trigram, lower trigram and changing line by hand. One and a half turns draws the slip. Daybreak: one slip in the morning to set the direction of the day. Coins: three coins, six tosses. Shake your phone to throw them, and the hexagram builds line by line from the bottom up. Emblem: an object in view and the way you face give the image, read by the Early Heaven order of the trigrams. Tally: two people each name a number, and together the numbers set the hexagram. For the moment before a shared journey or a meeting. Five things we keep Calculated · Every hexagram is reckoned by a set method, from the moment or the words, numbers or coins you give. Recompute the same input at any time and the answer is identical. In the present · A slip holds things you can do today. It speaks of time and rhythm; the doing is yours. Crafted · A dial made with the care of a fine object: five finishes, the sound of bowl and chime, every turn and tick measured. Self-contained · Drawing slips, pressing seals and writing notes all happen in your hand, and work the same deep in the mountains with no signal. Always with you · Today's slip is still beside you years from now, a way to look back along the road you walked. Walk in step with time.
