About Crate Music Library
Your music is personal. Your app should be too. Crate turns your Apple Music library into a room full of records: every album you were partway through, waiting at the second you stopped; a box of new releases every Friday; the story behind each song as it plays; mixtapes that keep themselves up to date; and a Clerk who makes playlists from songs you already own. PICK UP WHERE YOU LEFT OFF, TO THE SECOND Stop a record halfway through "Deacon Blues" and Crate keeps your place: the song and the second, for each of your last five albums and playlists. Switch to something else, come back days later, and it carries on from exactly there, on your iPhone, your iPad, in CarPlay and from your Apple Watch. SAY WHAT YOU WANT TO HEAR Ask the Clerk for "sunday morning soul from the 70s", "songs with trains in the title" or "Leonard Cohen songs sung by anybody but Leonard Cohen". It picks only from your library, shows how it read your words, and tells you plainly when it can't do something rather than guessing. A BOX OF NEW RECORDS EVERY FRIDAY The week's new releases that connect to records you already own: their label, a musician or producer on them, an artist they sound like, the town they come from. Each one says why it's in the box. Hear thirty seconds of every track, then sort the delivery: Add to Library, Later, or Not for Me. THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG Pop-Up Facts appear over Now Playing every half minute: how the song was written, who played on it, what happened in the studio. Each says where it came from. Liner notes show who produced every record and who played on it; tap any name to see everything else of yours they worked on, and read what the critics said. MUSICAL ROAD TRIPS Travel through your own records: one song from every year, from one genre to another, from one album to another, or town to town on a map by where your artists come from, with a postcard from every stop. MIXTAPES AND PLAYLISTS Smart playlists built from rules, like "added this year" or "from the 90s and not played lately", beside playlists you make by hand. Crate can copy any of them into the Music app and keeps that copy current, so it plays in the car and on every device. EVERY DAY, SOMETHING NEW FROM YOUR SHELVES An album of the day with the reason it came up, crates of a dozen records joined by a reason you can see, and records picked for the hour you're in. WANDER AND THE BACK ROOM Flip from one artist to the next and see where it takes you. The Back Room holds what the critics are reviewing, new records from artists you collect, and the records your library is missing. EVERY PLAY, YEAR BY YEAR Stats on your eras, the hours you listen, every album you played through, and your year in records. Made for iPhone Duo: open it for a sidebar beside your shelf, or half-fold it to put a record on one page and its liner notes on the other. Dress it in one of seven looks, from a sunlit record room to a late-night jazz club. Works on iPhone, iPad and CarPlay, with home screen widgets and an Apple Watch remote. Private by design: Crate reads your library on your device and there is no Crate server, so nothing comes to us. Your own library works without a subscription; playing records you don't own needs Apple Music. Website: cratemusicapp.com Discord: discord.gg/QUtsNJUvNV Support: [email protected]
What’s new
Version 1.0.1 · Updated October 20, 2026
Right Now, rebuilt. Around 150 moments, from Deep Focus and Cooking Dinner to Rain on the Windows and your usual Monday evening, each filled from your own shelves by how the records actually sound, with a line under every record saying why it's there. The ones you haven't seen lately come first, so it keeps changing. Also new: • Settings is shorter and simpler, with everything you only look at under Behind the Scenes. • On iPad, album pages put the record beside its songs, and Home goes to two columns on a big iPad. • Choose how Now Playing shows the record, from four styles, in its intro or in Settings › Look. • Every look is easier to read, in light and in dark. • Search shows results as you type, even while your library is still loading. • The Friday Box says what it's doing while it packs your first box, and Coming Soon no longer lists a record twice.
