Real IQ Test: Culture Fair

52 items made only of figures and numbers, about 14 minutes. Real test formats and time limits, used to estimate your IQ. The result is not a single number: an IQ estimate with a 95% confidence interval, plus your strengths across 5 sections. New items are generated every time. WHAT IT IS - 52 items across 5 sections, about 14 minutes - Each section is timed. As in real intelligence tests, how far you get within the time is part of what is measured - 6 options per item. You can skip anything you cannot solve THE 5 SECTIONS - Figure matrices - read the rules running across a 3x3 grid - Figure series - read how figures change from left to right - Odd one out - find the property five of six share - Number series - read the rule behind the numbers - Mental rotation - turn shapes in your head NO LANGUAGE, NO SCHOOL KNOWLEDGE Every item is made of figures and numbers only. Verbal items would shift what is measured from reasoning towards how much of a language you have been exposed to. Raven Progressive Matrices and the Culture Fair Intelligence Test are built from figures alone for the same reason. Colour is never used to tell options apart, because colour vision differs from person to person. A RANGE, NOT A SINGLE NUMBER The number of correct answers is not used directly as the score. Each item carries a difficulty, ability is estimated through those difficulties (item response theory), and the result is converted to an IQ with a mean of 100 and a standard deviation of 15. With 6 options, the share you would get right by chance is subtracted inside the estimate. There is a limit to what 52 items can tell you, so each section result carries a 95% confidence interval. DIFFERENT ITEMS EVERY TIME Items are generated fresh for every sitting, so memorising answers gets you nowhere. To avoid a practice effect there is a 1 hour wait between sittings.
