About Mercy: A Christian Community

Mercy is a free Christian community where Christians help each other. We pray for each other, post jobs, and support Christian-owned businesses. And we study the life and gospel of Jesus Christ from the original Greek, with the history that brings the Bible to life. The story you were never told Most of us grew up hearing that when Moses came down from the mountain, his people were worshiping a golden calf, and we were told they had turned to another god. But the book of Exodus says that Aaron built an altar in front of the calf and called a feast to the LORD. The people still believed they were worshiping their own God, so they gave him a body made of gold, shaped by their own hands. Many gods were worshiped in those lands, and one of them was Baal. Centuries after Moses, in the city of Samaria, a king named Jehu called every servant of Baal into Baal's temple, shut the doors, and had them all killed. The writers of Kings tell it as a boast. This is the world Jesus walked into. John wrote that the law came through Moses, but that no one had ever seen God. Jesus said it himself: "Not that any man hath seen the Father, save he which is of God, he hath seen the Father." Jesus did not bring a new God. He showed us the true Father, the one no one had seen. Jesus said he came to fulfill the law (Matthew 5:17). The Greek word is πληρώσαι (plērōsai), and it means to pay in full. Jesus came to pay the debt of the old law in full, so that no one would ever have to pay it again. He healed on the day of rest, in public, on purpose, because mercy came first. Around AD 140, a ship owner named Marcion, who loved Jesus, came to Rome and put together the first collected New Testament. It had one gospel and ten letters of Paul, and it left the Old Testament out. In 144 the church in Rome sent him away, and the question he asked is still with us. Centuries later, when Christians ruled Jerusalem, they never rebuilt the old temple where animals were killed to wash away sin. No gospel ever shows Jesus offering a sacrifice. He said, "I will have mercy, and not sacrifice." That is only the start, and the more we dig, the more we find. Teachings on the New Testament Each teaching tells one true story from the life of Jesus. We go back to the Greek words, show where a translation changed the meaning, and bring in the history of the time. Every teaching has its own painting. Tap any verse to open the whole Bible chapter it comes from, and the app keeps your place as you go. New teachings open as they are finished. A daily devotional Each morning there is a short devotional to read. It has a painting, a real verse from the Bible, the name of the person who said it, and one line to pray. It takes about a minute. If you miss a day, nothing is lost. A prayer board Post what you need prayer for. Read what other people need, and tap "I prayed" when you pray for them, or send a heart. Every post is checked before anyone sees it. Christian Neighbors Find one-time jobs that people post and pay for, and see what city each one is from. Find Christian-owned businesses to hire or buy from, or list your own so people can find you. You can also find food banks and shelters in the United States that need volunteers. Free, in eight languages Mercy is free, with no ads, and we will never sell your prayers. You can read and pray without an account, and you only sign in when you want to post or tap "I prayed." Mercy works in English, Spanish, Filipino, Portuguese, Greek, Arabic, French and Korean. Why we are called Mercy We are called Mercy because that is what Jesus showed the Father to be. He said, "Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful." Mercy is our chance to live the way Jesus taught, and to learn from him what love with no conditions looks like.
