About Onomatope: Japanese Mimetics

ころころ or ごろごろ? Learn to tell them apart in a sentence. ころころ describes something small and light rolling. ごろごろ describes something big and heavy. Compare similar words, read translated examples and learn which clues point to the right choice. Practice four skills: choosing the word that fits a sentence, meaning, word shape and attachment, and the difference voicing makes. Answer with tiles, without typing. Each answer leads to an explanation and the word's reference card. Word cards include meanings, examples with furigana and translations, clues and similar words. Pair comparisons explain the nuance and show examples of both words. Your progress and mistakes stay on your device. Six levels cover the body and feelings, voiced pairs, emotions, word shapes, the world around you, and sentence attachment. The first two levels are completely free. Unlock the remaining levels with one non-renewing purchase. Words return for spaced review. See which similar words you mix up and in which direction. In Sentences, paste a line from a manga or scan it from a photo. AI explains the onomatopoeia in that context. You can also describe a sound or feeling and find words that fit. A free query allowance is available; a separate auto-renewing subscription provides a larger allowance. Prices and terms are shown before purchase. The subscription is not required for practice or levels. Learning works offline. AI requires internet access. Anonymous usage statistics are optional and off by default; withdraw your consent in Settings. No account or ads.
