Pure Bible Search

Pure Bible Search finds words in the King James Bible the way a concordance does — by looking them up, not by reading through the text. Type a word and its every occurrence is already counted: 973 for "Jesus", 64,041 for "the", all 790,849 words of the 1769 text indexed and waiting. Because it is a concordance, the app can offer only the words that genuinely come next. Type "in the beg" and it will finish "beginning"; type a word no verse ever follows, and it tells you the phrase is finished. WHAT IT DOES • Instant search of every word and phrase in the King James (offline, no internet connection needed) • Occurrence, verse, chapter and book counts on every search • Filter on just red letters or verses that have a pilcrow • Word-completion drawn from the text itself, never from a dictionary • Wildcards — *eth finds 5,087 occurrences, and ? and [abc] work too • Several phrases at once, together in the same verse, chapter, book or testament • Exclusions: "Jesus" without "Jesus Christ" leaves 777 • Search Within any book, category or testament, colophons and superscriptions included • Results grouped by book, with the verse and occurrence count on every row • Copy verses, raw text or the reference list, headed by the criteria that found them • Search for words with ending punctuation! Jesus without trailing punctuation shows up 777 times. THE COUNTS ARE THE POINT For a great many readers the number is the discovery. Where a total is one of the numbers worth naming, the app prints the arithmetic beside it — 343 (7x7x7), 2,331 (777x3), 1,989 (153x13) — from a table written by hand, so nothing decorates a coincidence. Tap any word to see exactly where it falls: its ordinal in the verse, the chapter, the book, the testament and the whole Bible, with the letters, vowels and consonants counted.
