Song in the Air: UPnP & DLNA

Song in the Air is a UPnP/DLNA control point for people who care how their music sounds. Our ambition is simple, and we will say it plainly: to build the best UPnP/DLNA streaming client there is. It is not a streaming service and holds no catalogue of its own. Point it at your network and it finds your UPnP/DLNA media servers — MinimServer, Asset UPnP, Synology, Twonky, Jellyfin and others that follow the standard — along with every UPnP renderer that can play from them. No accounts, no cloud, no library to import. Your music stays where it is. BIT-PERFECT Your server streams straight to your renderer, untouched. Audio never passes through this app on its way to your system: no transcoding, no re-encoding, no volume normalisation, no sample-rate conversion. A 24-bit/192kHz master reaches your streamer as a 24-bit/192kHz master, bit for bit, with nothing lost on the way. The signal path is shown, not claimed — format, bit depth, sample rate and bitrate sit in plain view while you listen. An audiophile chain, and one worth looking at: full-screen artwork with the sleeve treatment, cover-driven colour throughout, and a set of ideas you will not find in another player. A SECOND SCREEN, WITHOUT INSTALLING ANYTHING Put the phone down. An iPad, a laptop or your TV becomes a now-playing display: large cover, title, year and the actual format, readable across the room. Scan the QR code — nothing to install, no account, nothing leaves your network. Five views, light or dark, with optional playback controls. PLAY ON YOUR SYSTEM — OR ON YOUR PHONE Send music to your streamer, amplifier or active speakers. Or pick your iPhone and listen through headphones or a portable DAC. Local playback announces the source sample rate per track, so your files keep their resolution on the way out. FINDS THINGS IN A LARGE COLLECTION Browse by artist, album, genre or label. An A–Z strip, sorting by most or least played, and a grid or list layout — all on one row. Discovery rows surface what is new on the shelf, what you have never played, and what you heard last. Drag to reorder the queue, swipe to remove. Measured against libraries of many thousands of tracks, so a large collection opens as quickly as a small one. After that it is a subscription, monthly or yearly, with a free week on your first subscription — or a one-time Lifetime purchase with all future updates included and no subscription at all. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. The app talks to your servers and your playback devices. Beyond that it reaches the internet for three things only: the App Store, to check your subscription; cover art when your server has none; and artist information when you open that panel. Besides Apple, four non-profit services are involved — MusicBrainz, the Cover Art Archive, Wikidata and Wikipedia — and every one is named in the privacy policy. REQUIREMENTS A UPnP/DLNA media server on your local network. Playback on external devices needs a UPnP renderer; local playback works on its own. Hi-res output beyond the phone's built-in capability requires an external DAC. Try it without a server: Demo mode in Settings fills the app with a small sample catalogue.
