About First Light: Antler Score
First Light scores a buck from one head-on photo. You trace each beam and tine, it measures every line against a scale in the picture, and each total comes with an honest range instead of one falsely exact number. Legal shooting light, a last-light alert and solunar times stay free. SCORE A BUCK, HEAD-ON Head-on photos score closest, because both antlers and the ears sit square to the camera. The guide shows what to shoot, then you place the taps: 1. Take or choose a head-on photo of the rack. 2. Trace each beam and tine with the magnifier. Every line stays on the photo for you to check, and a line that looks off gets flagged. 3. Read gross and net, each with its own range in whole inches. Tape one inside spread and the ranges tighten. Whitetail, mule deer and elk use the standard North American rules, typical and non-typical. A photo score is an estimate, good for comparing bucks and deciding which to pass on. It is not an official score; a real tape on the rack is what counts. Share a score card with your hunting buddies. Hunters can also choose to send a scored photo to help tune accuracy; nothing is sent unless you choose to. Try it on the demo rack first. Your first score of your own photo is free. FOLLOW HIM, AND SEE WHEN HE MOVES Name each buck, add dated trail-camera photos and watch his score grow from one season to the next, with its range. Then open "When he moves": each buck's photo times set against first light, last light and the solunar periods, so you can see things like "4 of 5 photos within 40 min of last light." It all stays on your phone. Turn on a Sunday-evening trail-cam reminder if you want one (it is off until you do). HUNTING TIMES, FREE First Light works out legal shooting hours from your GPS, on your device and with no signal needed. Tap "Use my location" (or type coordinates for a spot you're scouting ahead of time) and see today's window with a live countdown, or open the 7-day week to plan ahead. Each day gets an activity rating, the major and minor solunar times (the hours when the moon is overhead or underfoot) and the moon phase, and the app picks the best day with the reasons why. With a signal it adds the forecast from MET Norway: a falling barometer, wind and temperature. Treat the rating as hunting lore turned into a number, not a promise; the legal-hours math never leans on it. Turn on the last-light alert and your phone speaks up 15 minutes before shooting light ends. It is off until you choose it. The default offset is 30 minutes before sunrise and after sunset, the common federal-style norm, and you can change it because exact legal offsets vary by state and species. Please verify with your local wildlife agency. Legal shooting-hour offsets and season dates vary by state and species and change year to year. First Light does not include per-state regulation data or season dates, and it is not a substitute for your state's official regulations. There is nothing to sign into. Your coordinates are used to work out where the sun sits for that spot, and we never receive them. With a signal, a copy rounded to about a kilometre goes to MET Norway, the Norwegian weather service, to fetch the forecast. What costs nothing: hunting times, the 7-day week, the solunar times, the last-light alert, the demo rack and your first score. First Light Pro adds unlimited scoring of your own photos, the hit list with its growth chart, and "When he moves", on a yearly or monthly subscription, each beginning with a 1-week free trial. Subscriptions renew on their own. Not wanting the next period? Switch renewal off under Subscriptions in your Apple ID before the current one runs out. What’s new
Version 1.2.2 · Updated November 4, 2026
First Light now opens on scoring: score a buck from one head-on photo and see gross and net, each with a range you can trust. A new head-on photo guide shows what to shoot so the score lands closer. Trace each beam and tine with the magnifier; every line stays on the photo and lines that look off are flagged. Follow each buck season to season on a growth chart, and see when he moves against shooting light with "When he moves". Hunting times, the last-light alert and solunar times are still free.
