About The Lords: Who's in the Lords

The House of Lords is full of experts, and any of them can take up your issue. This app helps you find the right one. WHAT THE HOUSE OF LORDS ACTUALLY IS The Lords is the second chamber of the UK Parliament. Its members are appointed rather than elected, and most are there for what they know. Sitting in the chamber are surgeons, scientists, judges, senior police officers, head teachers, disability campaigners, trade unionists, former ministers and people who have run the institutions the rest of us only read about. Their job is to go through legislation line by line, question the government, and send bills back to the Commons when the detail doesn't work. WHY IT MATTERS TO YOU There are no constituencies in the Lords. No peer belongs to you — and that cuts both ways. Any peer can take an interest in any issue, and many follow one subject closely for decades. So the way in isn't your postcode. It's the subject. FIND A PEER BY WHAT THEY KNOW Search by policy area and see which peers have registered a specialist interest in it. Or search by name if you already know who you're looking for. Filter by party, or by Crossbench: peers who sit with no party at all. Crossbenchers include many of the House's most specialist members. SEE THE FULL RECORD Every profile brings together what's on the public record: - How they came to the Lords — appointed life peer, hereditary peer or bishop — and the year they arrived - Their registered areas of policy interest - Their career and professional background before Parliament - Their entry in the Register of Lords' Interests, in full - Recent speeches from Hansard - How they voted in recent divisions - Written questions they've put to the government PLAIN COUNTS, NO LEAGUE TABLES Activity is shown as plain figures. No rankings, no scores, no commentary on whether someone is doing enough. The record is presented as it stands and you draw your own conclusions. BUILT FOR EVERYONE, NOT JUST WESTMINSTER No account. No sign-up. No tracking. Open the app and start looking. Useful if you're researching an issue, writing to a peer for the first time, following a bill through Parliament, teaching politics, reporting on it, or simply curious about who these people are and what they actually do all day. THE LORDS+ An optional one-off purchase adds the full text of every speech, search within a peer's speeches, and every intervention they made in a debate. It adds depth and convenience. It never hides the record. ABOUT THE DATA Every figure comes directly from Parliament's own open data and updates as Parliament publishes it. Membership of the Lords is changing following the House of Lords (Hereditary Peers) Act 2025. The app always shows the current House.
