About Jishin Sensei
"What do you do when the ground shakes?" Learn it one question a day — and carry the rest with you: communication cards to set up before you land, and an emergency guide that opens with no signal. In English, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese. All of it free. For people visiting Japan, and people living here. Jishin Sensei ("Earthquake Teacher") turns Japan's earthquake wisdom into a daily habit. Every day, Namazu Sensei — the legendary catfish of Japanese earthquake folklore — asks you one real-life scenario question: What would you do? And if the ground ever shakes for real, the emergency numbers, the what-to-do-where guide and the cards you show people are already on your phone, and they work offline. PREPARE TAB — SET UP BEFORE YOU LAND • Communication cards: "Is there a tsunami risk here?", "There are things I can't eat" — the lines you are likely to need, in large Japanese, read aloud at one tap. Tap what happened to build the sentence, and the other person answers on the card: they tap a tile, type, or draw. In the Japanese UI they turn into cards for helping a foreign visitor, in English, Korean or Chinese; food and blood type become boards to point at • My health card: allergies, diet, blood type and medication, shown in Japanese when it matters. Stored only on your phone (iOS Keychain). Save it as an image for your lock screen • My trip card: where you stay, your flight home, who you travel with, who to call — set once, shown in Japanese, and filled into the cards for you. Saves straight to Photos • Signs and notices: a mini-dictionary of the Japanese on walls and screens — 断水, 炊き出し, 運転見合わせ, 緊急避難場所. Paste text from a photo or type in English to search; it reads aloud too • Destinations: Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto, Hokkaido, Okinawa, Fukuoka, Nagoya, Hiroshima, Kanazawa — each area's official disaster app where there is one, multilingual page and tsunami note • Install before you land: Safety tips, the official app supervised by the Japan Tourism Agency EMERGENCY TAB — WORKS OFFLINE • "Feeling an earthquake?" — what to do while it shakes, right after, and in the hours that follow • "Where are you right now?" — the same guidance sorted by place: hotel, elevator, underground, coast • Japan's emergency numbers (110, 119, 118), the #7119 medical advice line with numbers you can actually dial, the Disaster Emergency Message Dial (171) guide, and the 24/7 multilingual Japan Visitor Hotline • One tap to your health card, trip card, sign dictionary and communication cards DAILY QUIZ • One scenario question every day — hotels, trains, onsen, coastlines • Instant explanations with official sources (JMA, JNTO, and more) • Streaks and stats; share today's result in one tap • Answer at your own pace — no time pressure (the clock only runs in the optional Challenge mode) • The whole deck is open: review any of the 68 questions, run Study Mode (or just the ones you missed), or take the 10-question Challenge 68 QUESTIONS, WITH SOURCES • 68 scenario questions across five categories: Basics, Action, Communication, Information, Survival • Every answer links to its source — mostly Japanese public agencies • A link to hear the real phone alert tone, on a mobile carrier's page, before you ever need it • Fun facts along the way: why IS the teacher a catfish? • Earn category badges — and a shareable Certificate of Completion from Namazu Sensei FREE — ALL OF IT Every question, Study Mode, Challenge, the Prepare tab and the Emergency tab: free, for everyone. If the sensei has earned a snack, there is a tip jar in Settings. Built for travelers, exchange students, people living in Japan, and Japan fans everywhere. Earthquake know-how — a charm for your trip, and for your days in Japan. Not affiliated with, or endorsed by, the public bodies named as sources.
