About Simply Chef: Save any recipe
Save any recipe. See it as one table. Cook from it. Shop from it. Share a link from Safari, or paste a link or the recipe text. Simply Chef turns it into a table: ingredients down the left, one operation per column, and cells merged where things come together. You see the whole dish on one screen, with no story to scroll past. SAVE ANY RECIPE Everything you convert goes into your collection and stays there, with its photo if the page had one. Star the ones you cook often, search by name, and open any of them with no connection at all. Save a recipe on your phone and it is already on your iPad, because your collection follows your Apple Account. ONE CLEAR TABLE Melt, whisk, fold, bake: every column is one operation. You can see that the butter and sugar are creamed before the eggs go in, and that the dry mix was waiting the whole time. On an iPad, most recipes fit on one screen with nothing to scroll. COOK MODE Type sized to be read from arm's length with your hands full. Tap a step to check it off, tap an ingredient once you have it ready. Hold a step to light up everything that feeds into it. The screen stays on while a recipe is open. One button switches between fitting the whole table on screen and giving every column room to breathe. SCALING AND UNITS Halve, double or triple a recipe and the quantities follow. Show cups, grams, or both at once. SHOPPING LIST Tap the cart on any recipe for a checklist of what it needs, at the scale you're cooking. Tick things off as they go in the basket, clear them away, and the list is still there next time you open the app. NO ACCOUNT. NO SUBSCRIPTION. NO TRACKING. Pay once. There is no account to make, no subscription, no ads and no analytics. Recipes live on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud. Nothing is sent to us, because there is no server of ours that could receive it. CHECKED BEFORE YOU SEE IT Each ingredient has to be used, and each step has to trace back to real ingredients or earlier steps. When a recipe cannot be drawn as a clean table, you get a plain list instead of a broken grid. Three sample recipes come with the app, so you can see how the format handles a simple chain, two mixtures folded together, and a component made ahead. Table format invented by Michael Chu at cookingforengineers.com.
What’s new
Version 1.8 · Updated October 21, 2026
Cook from the table. Tap a step when it's done and an ingredient when it's ready, and hold a step to see everything that goes into it. The screen stays on while you cook. Shopping list: tap the cart on any recipe for a checklist of its ingredients, scaled the way you're cooking it. Saved recipes open with the recipe's own photo. It's downloaded once, when you add the recipe, and kept with it in your own iCloud, so opening a recipe never loads anything from the web. Turn photos off in Settings.
