About FurMetric: Pet Food Scanner

Scan any dog or cat food and get a score out of 100, with a plain-English breakdown of what helped and what hurt. Unlimited scans, always free. No account, no ads. No jargon. No guesswork. No wondering whether "meat by-products" is a problem. SCAN AS MUCH AS YOU LIKE — ALWAYS FREE Unlimited scanning, forever. No daily limit, no trial countdown, no wall between you and the answer while you're standing in the aisle. SEE WHY, NOT JUST WHAT Every score comes with the reasoning: which ingredients earned credit, which lost points, and why. Named meat near the top of the list is a good sign. Artificial colors, unnamed by-products and chemical preservatives are not. Tap a marked ingredient to see what it is, with its source. You can read the whole method in the app. ALLERGY FLAGS FOR YOUR PETS Add your dog or cat and the ingredients they react to, and FurMetric flags them on every scan. It also catches the ones hiding under other names: a pet flagged for chicken gets a "may contain chicken" warning on a label that only says "poultry meal". Scanning a cat food for your dog? FurMetric tells you, and still checks your dog's flags. TOXIC INGREDIENTS, CAUGHT BY A FIXED CHECK Xylitol, onion, grapes and raisins, and propylene glycol in cat food, are checked on every scan by a fixed rule, not by AI, and flagged no matter how good the rest of the label looks. When a scan flags one, FurMetric shows ASPCA Animal Poison Control and the Pet Poison Helpline, one tap to call, in case your pet already ate it (both may charge a fee). FREE RECALL ALERTS Watch any food, or just scan it, and if it gets recalled you get told (turn on notifications). Free, permanently. A recall means a product could actually harm your pet — that is not something to put behind a subscription. THE SAME PRODUCT ALWAYS GETS THE SAME SCORE Scan a bag today and again next year and you'll get the same answer. Scores don't quietly drift, and they don't change because you asked twice. NO BARCODE? SEARCH BY NAME Look up a food by brand or product name before you buy it. CAN'T FIND A PRODUCT? ADD IT IN TWO PHOTOS Photograph the front of the bag and the ingredient panel. FurMetric reads the label, you check it's right, and it's scored on the spot — and it's there for the next person who scans it. Products we add this way come from a photograph of the actual bag — never copied from a website, never typed from memory. WE'D RATHER SAY "WE DON'T HAVE IT" THAN GUESS If a label can't be read clearly, FurMetric refuses to score it and asks for a better photo. If a product isn't in the app yet, it says so instead of guessing. DOGS AND CATS, WET AND DRY, FOOD AND TREATS All of it, in one app. WHAT WE DON'T DO No ads. No sponsored placement — a brand cannot buy a better score. No affiliate links: we earn nothing when you buy something we scored well. No account to create. No tracking. Your scan history, your pets and their allergy flags stay on your phone. FurMetric gives you information about ingredients. It is not veterinary advice — always talk to your vet about your pet's diet and health.

What’s new

Version 1.0.8 · Updated October 27, 2026

Allergy flags catch more names. A pet flagged for chicken now gets a "may contain chicken" warning on labels that only say poultry. Scanning a cat food for your dog, or a dog food for your cat? FurMetric now tells you, and still checks that pet's allergy flags. If a scan finds a toxic ingredient, you can call a 24/7 animal poison helpline in one tap. Reaction Journal: if you think a food made your pet sick, see how to report it to FDA and share a summary of your own logs. Search finds a brand and product typed together, like "Purina ONE". If notifications are off, watched foods now say so, with a button to turn them on, so you don't miss a recall alert.
