About Geode: Rock Crystal Identifier

What rock is this? Point your camera at it and Geode tells you: the name, the mineral family, the hardness, and how to recognize it yourself next time. And when you have nothing to photograph, there is a catalog of 2,500 rocks and minerals to browse. THE CATALOG: 2,500 ROCKS AND MINERALS Browse the whole reference catalog without taking a single photo. Look up a stone by name, or let the filters do the work: color, luster, transparency, crystal habit, cleavage, crystal system, Mohs hardness, chemical class, how rare it is. The filters also cover the tests you can run yourself: what fizzes in vinegar, what sticks to a magnet, what glows under a UV light. Enough to turn "a green rock, hard, not magnetic" into a short list. The catalog downloads once, then works offline. ONE PHOTO, ONE ANSWER YOU CAN CHECK Photograph any stone, crystal or mineral. Geode reads its color, texture, luster and crystal habit, shows you what it saw, and then what matches, mineral by mineral, in the catalog — not a black-box guess. When two stones look too much alike, it asks a few simple questions: does it scratch glass, does it fizz in vinegar, is it heavy for its size. Your answers decide it, and "I don't know" costs you nothing. WHAT YOU GET FOR EVERY STONE • The name of the stone and its mineral family • How it formed: igneous, sedimentary, metamorphic, hydrothermal • Mohs hardness, streak, luster and typical crystal habit • Its characteristic colors, varieties and where it is found • The look-alikes it gets confused with, and how to tell them apart CRYSTALS, MEANINGS AND TRADITIONS Every crystal carries a story. For each one you will find the properties different traditions have attributed to it, its symbolism, its associated chakra and its place in folklore: rose quartz, amethyst, obsidian, labradorite, citrine, selenite, malachite, lapis lazuli and hundreds more. A cultural reading, kept clearly separate from the geological one. YOUR ROCK COLLECTION Keep the stones that matter. Add your own photos to them, write down where you found one, what it cost, who gave it to you. Your scans stay in a separate history of their own, and your collection follows you to any phone you sign in on. And every week, a new stone to discover. WHO IT IS FOR • Anyone who picks up rocks without knowing their names • Crystal and gemstone collectors • Rockhounds, beginner or experienced • Hikers, beachcombers and curious kids getting into geology • Earth science students WORTH KNOWING Visual identification has limits. Some minerals are nearly impossible to tell apart from a photo and need physical testing — hardness, streak, density, acid reaction. Geode gives you a serious lead and the evidence to check it, not an expert verdict. For a valuable stone, see a certified gemologist. Crystal properties are presented as cultural traditions and beliefs. They are not medical advice and are not a substitute for professional care.
