Kalinio – a bridge to communication Augmentative and alternative communication for adults and children Kalinio is an augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) app. It helps people who cannot speak or have limited speech due to a neurological condition or injury express thoughts, wishes, and needs – even with limited hand movement. Kalinio reads letters, numbers, words, and the text associated with pictures aloud, one after another. A single signal selects the desired item. Communicating with pictures For people who cannot yet read and write well enough, or can no longer do so, Kalinio offers: • 600 Kalinio pictures: 200 included, plus 400 with variants available to download at no extra cost • Over 3,400 Mulberry symbols • Twelve ready-made themes and custom categories to find items faster • Add your own photos and pictures • Customize picture labels and the text read aloud • Choose boy/girl figures and lighter/darker skin tones for supported pictures Combine up to four pictures into simple messages. With “Done”, Kalinio reads the message once and pauses selection. Apple reviews the additional packs before release and provides them for download. Kalinio also checks that the files are complete and unchanged. Once downloaded, the pictures work offline. You can remove packs and download them again later; your selections and texts remain saved. Kalinio supports iOS/iPadOS 16.4 and later. Downloading the 400 additional pictures requires iOS/iPadOS 26 or later. The 200 included pictures, Mulberry symbols, and your own photos remain available on older supported devices. Customizable appearance Choose a classic view, soft colors, sky and meadow, or subtle or more detailed space designs – for children, teenagers, and adults.
