Nightshelf: Sleep Stories

A story for the quieter hours. Nightshelf reads classics and original fiction aloud, with a sleep timer, quiet music, ambient sound and a place saved for tomorrow. More classics, installed with the app Explore novels, romance, adventure, fairy tales, mysteries, history and biography, science fiction and philosophy, including The Phantom of the Opera, The Woman in White and Flatland. Some choices are free; Pro opens more. Selections also appear in their source collections. A tale for tonight Familiar Tales gives Cinderella, Snow White, Rapunzel and other recognizable stories their own covers and search matches. Short Listens brings together standalone selections from the classics. Choose a length, read the story's description, and save a title for later. These are historical versions; some contain frightening scenes or dated language. Your voice, your evening With Pro, choose from ten ElevenLabs narrators for English stories, with seven accent choices. Automatic uses Mira. Without Pro, Clara reads a short English welcome once per iPhone on Automatic, then an offline iPhone voice reads on. Pick Moonlit Piano or Evening Strings, created for Nightshelf. Or add nature sounds or white, pink or brown noise. Music and sounds work offline and stay free, with sound controls below the reader's timer. Set a sleep timer with a gentle fade, or use listening mode when you want to stay awake. If you like, any music or sound can keep playing after the story fades. Up next plays the stories you line up, one after another, and shows where your sleep timer fades. Return to your place Pause, move between chapters, rewind or skip ahead, and preview a passage before jumping to it. Where was I? helps you revisit the part around your last sleep fade. Progress and your saved shelf sync through your own iCloud. A story of your own With Pro, create bedtime stories in English, Spanish, French, German, Italian or Brazilian Portuguese, with illustrated covers. English stories use ElevenLabs; other languages use matching installed iPhone voices. Select Story language in Settings or the story creator. App menus remain in English. Cloud narration and story creation need an internet connection and are subject to service limits. Read in another language On iOS 18 or later, Reading language prepares automatic translations on your iPhone for offline reading. Available pairs may need language downloads; prepared text uses installed voices. Translations may contain errors. Your original edition and saved place stay available. Clear choices about privacy No Nightshelf account, advertising or tracking. On-device narration speaks locally. AI narration sends the current paragraph and a few ahead; for Nightshelf's own books, this is only book text. AI controls are in Settings. The story creator sends your selections and anything you type; covers use the story's title, tone and setting. Requests go through Nightshelf's server: OpenAI writes stories and paints covers; ElevenLabs narrates English. Older app versions may use OpenAI narration or Anthropic writing. IP addresses, device or subscription IDs and usage records support access and limits. New writing and ElevenLabs narration of your own stories need separate permission; voice previews use a fixed sample. Personal details are sent as entered; please leave them out.
