About AVECT Train Speed Monitor
The acceleration of a high-speed train. The grade of a mountain route. See your rail journey through numbers. AVECT is a real-time ride monitor for observing how your train moves. Follow speed changes, lateral G, altitude, and grade alongside the view from your window. WATCH YOUR TRAIN IN MOTION See speed, its average rate of change over two seconds, and lateral G. Speed change rate describes changes in estimated speed, not IMU longitudinal G or traction/brake commands. Lateral G uses a validated device axis or a marked estimate when direction and sensor quality allow. CHOOSE YOUR UNITS Choose km/h, mph or kt, and m or ft in SETTINGS. The speedometer and speed change rate follow your units, with secondary units retained. SETTINGS also opens GUIDE. CSV units stay fixed. FOLLOW YOUR JOURNEY BETWEEN STATIONS See stations, progress and track-based distances on supported Japanese lines and verified segments in the Netherlands, Austria, Belgium, Taiwan (TRA/MRT), the US (Amtrak), Canada, Germany, France, Spain and Norway. Elsewhere, nearby station references may show names and straight-line distances without predicting track connections. Coverage is partial; uncertain fixes can withhold readings. Local source names appear first, with available English names below; names are never auto-translated. Japanese station names remain primary. Distances are not official mileage or arrival predictions. Geometry may be dated: Austria 2024, Norway 2025, Canada 2012–2017. OBSERVE CLIMBS AND DESCENTS GNSS and relative pressure changes support altitude, vertical speed, and grade readings. Sustained pressure changes can update altitude without a horizontal speed reading when conditions allow. Altitude needs no online maps or elevation data. The altitude card shows GNSS, pressure support or HOLD. When conditions are insufficient or cabin-pressure disturbances are suspected, readings may be held with HOLD or become unavailable with “—”. SAVE YOUR RIDE AS CSV Start a recording to save speed, position, speed changes, altitude, grade, station information, and reception/device status. Open saved CSV files in Files and review them in a spreadsheet app. Recordings include latitude and longitude. GNSS WITH IMU SUPPORT GNSS provides the speed reference. IMU helps follow departures and short speed changes when conditions allow. Handheld use prioritizes GNSS until axis validation; detected phone movement or measurement gaps can end IMU support. During temporary reception gaps, estimation can continue for at most 10 seconds from the last reliable speed reference, even with a fixed device, and may end sooner. When evidence is insufficient, speed shows “—” and no distance is accumulated. PROCESSED ON YOUR DEVICE Location and sensor data are processed on your device. No app account or ads. Journey data is not automatically sent to a server. You choose when to record and where to share your CSV files. Rail data works offline; view its sources and licenses in SETTINGS and export the data for reuse. ABOUT THE READINGS Also use the displays as a passenger on aircraft, boats or in cars. Readings and GNSS-gap estimates depend on device placement, sensors and reception. Altitude is approximate and may differ from surveyed elevation or mean sea level. In aircraft cabins, pressure altitude may diverge greatly from trustworthy GNSS altitude; AVECT then prioritizes GNSS and holds altitude if reception becomes unstable. AVECT is a reference tool for observing movement. Do not use it for driving, piloting, navigation, surveying, or operational decisions. FREE TRIAL AND SUBSCRIPTION A subscription is required. Eligible users can try AVECT free for the first seven days. Unless canceled before the trial ends, the subscription renews automatically at the price and billing period shown on the purchase screen. What’s new
Version 1.2.7 · Updated October 20, 2026
Improved speed estimation during handheld use, along with station segment, acceleration, and grade displays. - The main screen returns to portrait orientation on iPhone. iPhone Duo retains layouts that adapt to the available display area. - Handheld use gives GNSS speed corrections priority. A brief acceleration alone no longer establishes a fixed mounting state. - When phone movement or an interruption in motion measurements is detected, continuous speed prediction resumes only after the forward axis has been revalidated. - Lateral G can appear as an estimate before forward-axis learning is complete, when direction and sensor quality are sufficient. - Station segment displays can appear sooner on short segments when position and direction evidence is sufficient. Connections in bundled railway data for Japan and overseas have also been repaired. - Speed uncertainty warnings stay visible through brief fluctuations, reducing blinking. - Speed and position states are handed over more consistently when stopping and starting. - Grade display checks now account for uncertain height changes over short distances. Speed prediction, station segments, and grade are withheld when the available position, direction, or sensor evidence is insufficient.
