Bookaholic – Read & Listen

Turn your own books into audiobooks, and the words you look up into flashcards. Bring an EPUB, a PDF, or plain text. Storyteller reads the whole book aloud, right on your device, 30 free hours a month on supported iPhones and iPads. With a Bookaholic Plus subscription, Full Cast gives each main character a voice of their own. STORYTELLER: THE WHOLE BOOK, READ TO YOU Listen on your commute, on a walk, or in bed. • Start listening before it's done: the chapter you're listening to is generated first • Each line is highlighted as it's read, and the page keeps up • Listen offline, with Lock Screen and headphone controls, speed, and a sleep timer • Japanese and English narrators you can preview before downloading • Mandarin Chinese narration is available too (voice files are about 340 MB) • On iOS 26 or later, generation can keep going after you leave the app. If iOS stops it early, finished audio is kept FULL CAST (PLUS SUBSCRIPTION): A VOICE FOR EACH MAIN CHARACTER Full Cast figures out who's speaking each line and gives the main characters voices of their own. Supporting characters share one male and one female voice. • The text of the chapters you pick is sent for analysis (Cloudflare and OpenAI) only after you approve a consent screen that lists what's sent • The audio is generated on your device and never uploaded • Plus includes a monthly analysis allowance. Replaying audio you've already generated doesn't count against it BEFORE YOU LISTEN • Storyteller and Full Cast require an iPhone or iPad with at least 8 GB of memory, such as iPhone 15 Pro or later, an iPad with an M-series chip, or iPad mini (A17 Pro). On other devices, you can still read, look up words, and review • The first time you generate audio in a language, you'll need its voice files: about 2 GB for Japanese (about 2.7 GB once installed), about 330 MB for English. Bookaholic asks before it downloads. Wi-Fi is recommended • Full Cast may need extra character voices. You'll see the total size before they download • A long novel's audio can take several hundred MB • No account needed for reading, lookup, notes, review, or Storyteller. Full Cast requires Plus; Apple sign-in is optional LOOK IT UP, KEEP IT, REVIEW IT Press and hold a word to see its reading and meaning, offline, from built-in Japanese, English, and Chinese dictionaries. • Every saved word keeps the sentence you found it in, and adds another each time you save it from a new passage • Tap a sentence to jump back to that spot in the book • Review with spaced repetition (FSRS), and export to CSV, Markdown, or an Anki deck READ YOUR WAY • Import EPUB, PDF, plain text, or Markdown files, or just paste in text • Read Japanese, English, and Chinese books.
