About Lower Limb Impairment
Lower Limb Impairment Calculator is a professional reference tool for calculating permanent impairment of the lower limb under the AMA Guides to the Evaluation of Permanent Impairment, 5th Edition (Chapter 17), with an optional overlay for the Queensland GEPI 2nd Edition. Built for orthopaedic surgeons, occupational physicians and medico-legal assessors, it follows the Chapter 17 methods and shows its working at every stage, including the jurisdiction-correct rule used to combine impairments. METHODS COVERED • Range of motion — hip, knee, ankle, hindfoot and great toe (Tables 17-9 to 17-14) • Muscle strength — manual muscle testing (Table 17-8) • Muscle atrophy — thigh and calf (Table 17-6) • Arthritis — by roentgenographic cartilage interval (Table 17-31) • Ankylosis / arthrodesis — hip, knee and ankle, with deviation from optimum • Amputation — by level (Table 17-32) • Peripheral nerve deficits (Table 17-37) • Peripheral vascular disease (Table 17-38) • Gait derangement (method of last resort) • Limb length discrepancy • Diagnosis-based estimates (Table 17-33), including Queensland GEPI overrides • Skin / scar impairment (Queensland GEPI 2 mode) JURISDICTION MODES • AMA 5 · International — AMA Guides 5th Edition as published • Queensland — AMA Guides 5th Edition with the GEPI 2nd Edition overrides The combining rule differs by jurisdiction (whole-person vs lower-extremity level), and the selected basis is recorded on every report. TRANSPARENT AND DETERMINISTIC • Lower-extremity and whole-person totals update live • The full step-by-step derivation can be exported as a report • The same inputs always produce the same result PRIVATE BY DESIGN All calculations run on your device. No account, no sign-in, and no data leaves your phone. IMPORTANT This app is a calculation aid intended for use by registered health practitioners. It does not diagnose, provide medical advice, or replace professional assessment. All values should be verified against the source tables, and the examining clinician is responsible for the final assessment.
