About Maya Corpus

The ancient Maya created a very advanced and beautiful writing system. They wrote their history in thousands of signs carved into temples, painted on ceramics, and folded into bark-paper books. Maya Corpus puts that entire written world in your pocket, and it works completely offline. Search and study the complete corpus of Maya hieroglyphic inscriptions. It contains over 200,000 glyph blocks drawn from monuments, pottery, and codices across the Maya world. Every record travels with you: on a plane, deep in the field, or far from any signal, the whole database lives on your device. THE COMPLETE CORPUS Browse and filter glyph blocks by site, object, position, semantic value, and logosyllabic reading. Follow linked references from a single sign to the object it appears on, the inscription it belongs to, and the place it was found. SÁASTUN — YOUR GLYPH ASSISTANT Ask a question in plain language and get an answer grounded in the corpus itself. Sáastun reads inscriptions, explains what individual signs mean, and always points you back to the source records, so you can check the evidence, not just take its word. MAP THE MAYA WORLD See exactly where each inscription comes from on an interactive map of Maya sites, from the great lowland cities to remote outlying monuments. TRACE TIME ITSELF Move through history along the Maya Long Count and the 260-day sacred calendar. Follow rulers, accessions, and events as ancient dates line up with our own. SIGNS, OBJECTS & 3D Study individual glyphs and their variants, examine catalogued objects in detail, and — where available — rotate high-resolution 3D models of the originals. BUILT FOR THE FIELD • 100% offline — no connection required, ever • Fast, focused, and free of clutter • No account, no sign-up • Fully translated into English, Spanish, French and German Whether you're an epigrapher working through a new text, a student learning your first signs, an archaeologist in the field, or simply drawn to one of the world's great scripts, Maya Corpus is the entire corpus — searchable, linked, and always with you. Maya Corpus is a reference tool for the study and appreciation of ancient Maya writing. Readings reflect current scholarship and are regularly updated with the latest academic sources for formal research.

What’s new

Version 1.2.11 · Updated October 27, 2026

What's new in 1.2.11 • Objects and Glyphs lists fixed: scrolling now loads each page once and in order, so a list no longer opens partway through or repeats its cards when you come back to it. • Community photos: share up to 10 photos of an object in one upload. • Sáastun wakes up faster after a quiet period, and gets its glyph reader ready as soon as you attach a photo. • The Corpus filter bar now lines up with the page, as on Objects. • An updated database with new community photos, and smaller fixes.
