About Omphalis
Omphalis is a calm home for the things you want to understand, not just get through. Save an article, a podcast, a YouTube talk, a PDF, or a voice note. Every one of them becomes the same clean, readable page, with structure you can actually use. What you get on the very first item Clean reading. Articles arrive without banners, popups, or clutter. PDF layouts are untangled. Podcasts and videos are transcribed. One calm page, whatever the source. Strata. Each piece is broken into 8 to 12 typed moments, so you can see the shape of something before you read it and go straight to the part you came for. Marks. Omphalis quietly underlines the few things worth a second look: a source worth checking, a term worth defining, a claim worth following up. Keep the ones that earn it, dismiss the rest. Listen. Any saved item can be read aloud in a voice you pick, with lock screen controls. What you get as your library grows Connections. Omphalis surfaces what your own library already knew: a piece that echoes something you saved months ago, a claim that sits against another, a bridge between two topics you never filed together. It is descriptive, not predictive. It shows you your library, not a feed. Today. A short daily loop with a clear place to start and a clear place to stop. How is it built Your own thinking and other people's work go through the same pipeline and connect to each other equally. There is no separate bucket for your notes. Omphalis is custodial software. There is no trending tab, no infinite scroll, and no streak to keep alive. Today finishes. Suggestions, not verdicts. The system that picks moments and marks is fallible, and the app is built to show you that rather than hide it. Every suggestion has a keep or a dismiss beside it, and Settings names the substrate plainly. Your library, your data
What’s new
Version 1.0.1 · Updated August 18, 2026
Offline reading and listening Omphalis now works without a connection. Recent articles and transcripts from your Library and Inbox sync on their own, so they are there when the signal is not, and anything you download explicitly stays until you remove it. Download articles, podcasts and videos from any Library card, Inbox row, or the reader. Media downloads stay opt-in: off, on Wi-Fi, or always, under Settings, Downloads. Highlights and notes you make offline are kept and sent when you reconnect. A Downloaded filter in Library, answered from your device rather than the network. Storage used, per-item removal, and clear all, under Settings, Downloads. Highlight what you hear Podcast and video transcripts can now be marked up. Long-press a line to start, tap further lines to extend the selection, then pick a colour. A highlight made on your phone shows up on the web, and the ones you made on the web show up here. Downloads that tell you the truth Real progress instead of a spinner that guesses. Interrupted downloads resume where they stopped rather than starting over. A download that only half finished says so, instead of showing a tick. Progress follows an item across every screen it appears on. Playback fixes Downloaded podcasts and videos now play from the file on your device, including with no connection. Podcasts that have no transcript keep a working play control. Fixed downloaded videos that reported finished and then refused to open. Clearer cards Library and Inbox rows now name what each item is, whether an article, podcast, video or PDF, and where it came from. Opening one no longer means guessing whether you are in for two minutes or forty pages.
