About FLANEUR – Street Photography
FLANEUR is the home for your street and reportage photography. Diary, map, walks and motivation in one app. LOG SESSIONS Capture every photo session in seconds: frames, keepers, place, start and end, camera, lens, film. Your gear is sorted by brand, and the lenses that fit the chosen camera are ready to pick. Your keeper rate shows how honest good street photography really is. RECORD WALKS Track your photo walks as routes, gentle on your battery. Follow a saved walk again later, or bring your own GPX files. COLLECT SPOTS Save the places you want to return to, with category, best time of day and rating on your personal map. Sunrise and sunset sit right on the map. PLAN AND SHARE TRIPS Plan photo trips with spots, places and areas, shot list, gear and checklist. Out there you tick off what you have shot. A trip can be shared as a file, for a workshop for example, and whoever gets it has the plan on their own iPhone. SUN COMPASS See in advance which direction the light will come from. Pick a day and a time, and fine lines on the map show the direction of the sun. A time strip shows blue and golden hour, and in compass mode the map turns with the direction you are facing. Sun Compass is a one-time in-app purchase. CHALLENGE DECKS The starter deck with 8 assignments is free. Three more decks with 104 cards between them get you out on the street with assignments on light, patience, seeing, courage and composition, each deck a one-time purchase. JOURNAL AND NOTES Write down what you saw, learned and missed. Ideas, learnings and inspiration get their own folders, and “Share to FLANEUR” sends videos, podcasts and articles from other apps straight into your collection. GOALS AND BADGES Nine milestone ladders with 30 tiers each and 70+ special badges keep you motivated, from your first session to GOAT status. Your day streak shows how consistently you really shoot. GOLDEN HOUR ON YOUR HOME SCREEN Three widgets: the countdown to the best light, the quote of the day, and your streak with weekly stats. LEARN FROM THE GREATS 550+ quotes from more than 180 photographers, from Cartier-Bresson to Salgado, plus 33 in-depth biographies of the street icons. YOUR DATA IS YOURS Everything is backed up automatically to your private iCloud via your Apple ID, no extra account, no password. No tracking, no ads. New iPhone, same Apple ID: everything comes back. Built for street photographers, designed dark-first, in English and German. The decisive moment is out there.
What’s new
Version 1.5 · Updated October 19, 2026
This one is mostly about light and trips. The sun compass can do a lot more now. Pick a day and a time, and fine lines across the map show which direction the sun is shining from. You can see in advance when the light falls into an alley, grazes a facade or runs along a canal. A time strip colours the day by its light, from night through blue hour and golden hour to full day, and the slider takes you through the hours. Two rays show where the sun rises and sets on that day. In compass mode the map turns with the direction you are facing, so on the spot you can see where the light will come from. Times are given in the local time of the place on the map, and everything is calculated on your iPhone. If you already bought the sun compass, all of this is yours without buying anything again. Sunrise and sunset on the map stay free for everyone. Golden hour in the widget and the reminder now follows the height of the sun instead of a fixed hour. Depending on place and season, the times shift because of that. Trips can be shared now. The share icon on the trip page turns your plan into a file, with spots and notes, places and areas, shot list, gear, checklist and dates. Whoever gets it opens it via AirDrop, from the Files app or with the plus in the Trips list, and then has the trip as a planned trip of their own. Sharing and importing cost nothing. Places and areas are added in one sheet. Search at the top or simply type a name. Areas now sit in the shot list and can be ticked off like spots. Sunrise and sunset on the trip page are shown in the trip's local time. Imported spots only count towards goals and badges once you have ticked them off. Whatever you have reached stays in Goals, even if a number goes down again later. Sessions now have an end. When you add a walk, the end comes from the walk just like the start, and you can adjust it. Cameras, lenses and films get a brand, and your gear is sorted by it. For gear you already have, FLANEUR suggests the brand from the name and only saves it once you agree. If you assign lenses to a camera, logging a session offers just the ones that fit. All the others are one tap away. Walks now keep recording reliably after a break at a café or restaurant, even with your iPhone in your pocket. Until now the rest of such a walk could end up as a straight line. Walks already recorded that way stay as they are. For some of you, syncing with iCloud got stuck as soon as a trip had an end date or a session had a short voice note. That has been fixed since early October, even on iPhones that have not been updated yet. FLANEUR is ready for iPhone Duo. On the outer display everything stays one-handed, with the menu and tools along the edge. Plus some finer work. Titles in sheets no longer get cut off on small displays, the hint when you add an area can be read in full again, and the layer chips on the map no longer break at large text sizes. A trip's end date is now properly labelled “End”. Shot ideas are called shot ideas everywhere. VoiceOver names the spot when you tick it off in a trip. Rarely, at most twice a year and never right after a walk, FLANEUR asks for a rating through Apple's own window. If the app helps you, we would be glad of it. Good light out there, flaneurs.
