About Liminal: The Atrium

Liminal is a quiet game about thinking. You arrive in the Atrium — a hall of doors. Behind each door is a great mind, reconstructed from their writings to think *with* you: Albert Camus on the café terrace, Nietzsche at altitude, Rumi turning toward the Beloved, Kafka in the unmarked office, the Stoic Marcus Aurelius, and more than a dozen others. Choose a voice, choose how you want to be met — challenged, accompanied, or left mostly to silence — and play. THE GAMES • Words for the Sea — offer a handful of words and receive a short poem in the thinker's voice. • Ask anything — put a real question to a real mind and hear a considered reply. • The Descent — one question, then deeper, and deeper still. • The Dilemma — a classic thought-experiment that branches to a reflection with no clean answer. • The Fork, The Reframe, Agree or Disagree, The Mask, A Minute of Silence — short games that read you back to yourself. ENCOUNTERS — where the voices meet • Two Voices — ask two thinkers one question and watch the second answer the first. • The Symposium — a panel answers, and a neutral narrator names the sharpest disagreement. • Philosophers' Football — draft two sides from the roster and let the eternal match be narrated. • The Oracle, The Gift, The Mirror — smaller rooms for fortune, reflection, and a parting tool to carry. QUIET BY DESIGN No ads. No tracking. No feed. Liminal asks nothing of you but attention. Many games work offline, for free. A NOTE ON THE VOICES The thinkers in Liminal are AI reconstructions written in each mind's spirit — they are not the real people, and nothing they say is professional advice. Liminal is for reflection, not counsel. Live, in-character answers are generated by Anthropic's Claude. What’s new

Version 2.4 · Updated September 10, 2026

THE JOURNEY — ONE QUESTION, SEVEN NIGHTS You don't pick a topic. You bring a question you actually have, and carry it down a road of seven Stations, one each morning. Each Station is a place, not a subject, kept by a voice who doesn't know what the last one said. Kafka takes your question at the Gate and restates it in its worst form. Nietzsche tells you what you actually want. Camus gives you a terrace where nothing is solved and something is enjoyed. Marcus names what it will cost. Schopenhauer argues the question isn't worth answering. Rumi turns you around. At the Return, a voice you choose hands it back. After every Station your question is rewritten, and the older versions stay in a ledger, struck through. Seven versions of one question. The payoff isn't an answer — it's seeing that the question you arrived with was never the one you had. A Station opens each morning. You cannot finish this in one sitting, and the app says so at the door. If waiting isn't what you need, "walk at my own pace" turns it off. You can leave at any Station and keep your ledger. Bring the same question back months later and walk it again — the two roads then sit side by side, so you can read what changed. THE NOTEBOOK — YOU WRITE, AND THE VOICES READ Fifteen standing questions worth keeping notes on — work, friendship, love, an animal, money, home, the body, time, anger, regret, solitude, parents, belief, enough, and the big one — or any question you bring yourself. The page is yours to return to over months. When you want it, hand what you've written to a thinker and choose what kind of help you actually want: develop it, challenge it, or complete it. Their replies sit in a margin beneath your own words. The page keeps every version you've written, so you can see how your thinking changed, and you can carry a single line of a reply back into the page to write against it. The Threshold's morning question now opens a Notebook page too. THE REMEMBERING IS NOW VISIBLE The voices have always carried a little of what you've kept, so their answers speak to you and not to anyone. Now every answer that draws on your kept words says so underneath, and shows you exactly which lines were sent. Turning "chambers remember you" off now genuinely stops it. ALSO IN THIS VERSION • Skip past a voice's arrival with one tap when you've heard it before. • The Journey lives on the Lock Screen and your wrist. Between Stations the widget and the watch show one thing — your question as it now stands. • More apps from the developer now links every app that has shipped. • Terms of Service, plainly written, in You → About.
