About Chess Caddy Tournament Manager

Chess Caddy is a free chess tournament manager for running in-person chess events — club nights, school tournaments, scholastic events, and weekend opens. It handles pairings, results, and standings from one phone, tablet, or laptop, and it works with no internet connection. It is built for the person actually running the room, not for online play. PAIRINGS IN ONE TAP • Swiss pairings by score, avoiding rematches, balancing colors, and handling byes fairly • Round robin schedules built in one action • Single-elimination knockout brackets with random draw and automatic byes • Bughouse (teams of two), with fixed partners or random partners each round • Manual override: swap seats, flip colors, or move the bye, with a warning if a swap creates a rematch • Late entries and requested half-point byes, so real club nights fit the software LIVE STANDINGS AND TIEBREAKS • The leaderboard updates the moment you enter a result • Buchholz, Buchholz Cut 1, Median, Sonneborn-Berger, Cumulative, and head-to-head tiebreaks, selectable per event • Medals for the top three and a champion banner when the last game is in • Tap any player for a round-by-round history: opponent, color, result, running score PLAYER MANAGEMENT • Add players in seconds, with or without ratings — or paste a whole roster at once • Edit names and ratings in place at any time • Withdraw a player mid-event and re-enter them later without breaking the standings • Forfeits and no-shows recorded cleanly, without skewing the tiebreak math CHESS 960 (FISCHER RANDOM) • Draw a random legal starting position, or look one up by number (1 to 960) • A clear board diagram, the position code, and a plain-English castling note • Print it as a wall sheet for the whole room PRINT, SHARE, AND BACK UP • Print pairing sheets for each round and a standings wall chart • Copy pairings or standings as text to paste into a group chat • A round timer for the wall, and a QR code that opens the published standings on any phone • Export a whole tournament to a file to back it up or reopen on another device • Undo any change, with an automatic backup so a misclick never costs you the event • Optional: publish results to a free, unlisted web page you can share with players WORKS OFFLINE, IN 25 LANGUAGES Chess Caddy runs entirely on your device. Your tournament data is stored locally and is not sent anywhere unless you choose to publish it. A dropped Wi-Fi connection never stops play. The app is available in English, Spanish, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Polish, Turkish, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Chinese, Ukrainian, Dutch, Czech, Hungarian, Greek, Vietnamese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean, Persian, Hebrew, Armenian, and Norwegian. WHO IT IS FOR Club organizers, tournament directors, chess coaches and teachers, scholastic program leaders, and anyone who needs to run a fair, friendly over-the-board chess tournament without spreadsheets, pairing cards, or a laptop full of software. Whether it is six players on a Tuesday night or sixty at a weekend open, the same three steps apply: add players, generate the round, enter results. FREE TO RUN EVENTS Running tournaments is free and always will be — every format, every feature above, with no ads. No account is needed to run an event. An optional club page (with a club ladder that rates your players across events, certificates, and a TV display for the wall) is available as a subscription for clubs that want a public home on the web — with the first 60 days free. What’s new

Version 1.0.5 · Updated September 19, 2026

The App Store now lists all 25 languages Chess Caddy speaks, and the app has grown since the last update: • Paste a whole roster — names and ratings from a spreadsheet or group chat become players in one go. • Late entries — add a player after round 1 and they join the next round. • Requested half-point byes — a player who has to miss a round can keep half a point. • More tiebreaks — Buchholz Cut 1, Median, and head-to-head join Buchholz, Sonneborn-Berger, and Cumulative. • A round timer for the wall, and a QR code that opens the published standings on any phone. For clubs: every new club page now starts with 60 days free, no card needed, and includes certificates, a saved roster, and a TV display. Running tournaments stays free. No account needed.
