About Filmeter: Film Light Meter

Filmeter turns your iPhone into a light meter made for film photography. Point the camera at your scene and get the exposure value (EV) and a full ladder of shutter and aperture pairs at your chosen ISO: the analog metering workflow, in your pocket. — THREE WAYS TO METER — • Reflected: read the light bouncing off your subject. • Incident (approximate): read the light falling on your subject with the front camera. Cover it with a sheet of plain white paper, point it at the light, and calibrate once. • Sunny-16: no camera needed; pick the light by condition and go. • Exposure compensation: dial in ±3 EV in ⅓-stop steps; the pairs, Zone and logbook follow it. — THE ANALOG TOOLKIT — • The Zone System: spot-meter tones onto zones 0–X and read your scene's contrast. • Reciprocity: correct long exposures per film with the Schwarzschild law. • Bulb timer: a countdown for the corrected exposure, right inside Reciprocity. Start it as you open the shutter and it tells you when to close it. • Depth of field: near and far limits and the hyperfocal distance for your lens, aperture and film format, from half-frame to 8×10. • Filter & bellows: add the stops for ND/polarizer filters and macro extension. • Film profiles: save your stocks (ISO + reciprocity) and meter with them. • Calibration: tune the meter once to your own device for accuracy you can trust. — LOG YOUR ROLLS — Log every frame (EV, aperture, shutter, mode, compensation) into named rolls, and export any roll to CSV for your notes. — PRIVATE BY DESIGN — Filmeter reads only the camera's live exposure; it never captures or stores a photo. No account, no cloud, no analytics, no third-party SDKs. Everything stays on your device. The app's only network use is Apple's App Store for your purchase. — FREE TO METER, PRO ONCE — All three ways to meter, EV and exposure pairs, exposure compensation, calibration, one film profile, and the roll logbook are free. Filmeter Pro adds the Zone System, reciprocity, the Bulb timer, depth of field, filter & bellows, CSV export, and unlimited film profiles, as a single one-time purchase. No subscription. — NOTE — Filmeter is an estimate, not a laboratory instrument. Readings depend on your device's camera and calibration; always cross-check important exposures against a trusted meter. What’s new

Version 1.1.0 · Updated October 17, 2026

• Exposure compensation: dial in ±3 EV in ⅓-stop steps. The EC pill on the Meter shows what's active, and the pairs, Zone and logbook follow it. • Bulb timer: a countdown inside Reciprocity that tells you when to close the shutter. Keeps the screen awake only while it runs. • Depth of field: near, far and hyperfocal distance for your lens, aperture and format. • Incident metering is now available to everyone: an approximate reading of the light falling on your subject. Cover the front camera with a sheet of white paper and calibrate once. • Shutter fix: times between 1/4 and 1 s now snap to the right marks (1/3, 1/2.5, 1/2, 1/1.6, 1/1.3). Before, they could read up to a stop off. • Smaller iPhones: the Meter's main buttons now stay in view above the tab bar. • Localization fixes: labels that still showed in English are translated, and the round buttons no longer truncate.
