About Ham Radio Companion
Pass your U.S. ham radio license exam — and become a better operator. Ham Radio Companion turns the official FCC exams into something you can actually study: every real question, a plain-language explanation for each one, and a full toolkit for life on the air. Free, no account, no ads. Technician, General, or Amateur Extra — practice the exact questions you'll see on exam day, understand WHY each answer is right, and walk in ready. EVERY OFFICIAL EXAM QUESTION Straight from the public NCVEC pools, with all schematic figures: • Technician 2026-2030 — 409 questions • General 2023-2027 — 423 questions • Amateur Extra 2024-2028 — 599 questions • 1,431 real questions in all UNDERSTAND EVERY ANSWER • A clear, plain-language explanation for every single question • Tap the cited FCC Part 97 rule to read the actual regulation SMART, FLEXIBLE STUDY • Realistic mock exams, built the official way and scored just like the real test • Custom practice quizzes, study by topic, and a weak-areas drill • Smart Review that resurfaces what you're about to forget • Flip-card flashcards, bookmarks, and missed-question review • Pause any quiz and resume exactly where you left off — on the same device or another one KNOW WHEN YOU'RE READY • A readiness gauge for each license class • Score-trend and accuracy-by-topic charts, a study streak, and achievements SYNC ACROSS YOUR DEVICES (OPTIONAL) • Turn on iCloud Sync and your exam history, statistics, bookmarks, logbook, and even a quiz in progress follow you between your iPhone and iPad • Off by default, stored only in your own private iCloud — never on our servers, never visible to us A COMPLETE HAM TOOLKIT • The full FCC Part 97 rules — searchable • Ten reference charts: band privileges, phonetics, Q-codes, ham abbreviations, RST, emission types, CTCSS tones, resistor color codes, schematic symbols, and U.S. call districts • Live band conditions from NOAA space-weather data, with an HF propagation estimate • Morse (CW) trainer and a contact logbook with ADIF export • Nine calculators — Ohm's law, antenna length, LC resonance, reactance, decibels, wavelength, SWR, series & parallel, and Maidenhead grid — each showing its formula and what every symbol means LEARN THE HOBBY, NOT JUST THE TEST • 26 original, plain-language guides and a searchable 155-term glossary • A new ham-radio term every day • A Home Screen widget and Siri shortcuts to jump straight into studying BUILT RIGHT • Native, polished design for iPhone and iPad • Study offline — the question pools, explanations, guides, and reference tools all work with no connection (live band conditions and iCloud sync need internet) • No account, no ads, no tracking. Your progress stays on your device — or in your own iCloud, only if you choose Ham Radio Companion is an independent study aid and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by the FCC, NCVEC, or ARRL. Question pools are used in the public domain.
What’s new
Version 2.0.0 · Updated September 3, 2026
Version 2.0 — sync, formulas, and polish. • iCloud sync (optional): keep your exam history, statistics, bookmarks, logbook, and selected class in sync across your iPhone and iPad — even a quiz you're in the middle of, so you can start on one device and finish on the other. Off by default, stored only in your own private iCloud, and never visible to us. • Calculators now show their formulas the way a textbook would, with a "Where" card explaining every symbol • Settings is one tap away from every tab, and links open in a sheet you can swipe away • Fixed: Study by Topic could show the wrong questions on some devices, and two reference charts had misaligned column headers Since 1.0, Ham Radio Companion has grown into a complete study companion and toolkit: • A plain-language explanation for all 1,431 questions, with a tap-through to the exact FCC Part 97 rule • The full FCC Part 97 rules, searchable • Live band conditions from NOAA space-weather data, with an HF propagation guide • Morse (CW) trainer, a contact logbook with ADIF export, and nine calculators (Ohm's law, antenna length, LC resonance, reactance, decibels, wavelength, SWR, series & parallel, grid square) • Smart Review (spaced repetition), flashcards, and achievements • Ten reference charts: band privileges, phonetics, Q-codes, ham abbreviations, RST, emission types, CTCSS tones, resistor color codes, schematic symbols, and U.S. call districts • 26 original guides, a searchable 155-term glossary, and a Term of the Day • Home Screen widget and Siri shortcuts • Refined iPad layout and the 2026–2030 Technician pool Free, offline, and private — no account, no ads, no tracking.
