About Critter Finder: Wildlife ID
Critter Finder turns every hike, backyard, and road trip into a real-life treasure hunt. See an animal, bug, bird, reptile, or anything in between? Snap a photo and AI instantly identifies it — common name, scientific name, a friendly description, a fun fact, and a heads-up if it's venomous. Every find is saved to your personal Critter-Dex, so discovering wildlife feels like a game. WHAT YOU CAN DO • Identify anything alive — mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, fish, insects, arachnids, and more • Build your Critter-Dex — a beautiful grid of every species you've discovered • Earn it — score points by rarity, level up, and unlock badges • Keep a streak — log a critter a day and complete rotating daily challenges • Explore — see the latest finds from the community • Map your sightings — drop a pin where you found each critter • Share your catches — turn any find into a shareable card for your friends and feeds PERFECT FOR • Curious kids and families exploring outside • Birders, bug hunters, herpers, and backyard naturalists • Anyone who loves the "wait… what IS that?" moment Snap it. Name it. Collect it. Your next discovery is right outside your door. Note: Critter Finder uses AI to identify wildlife from your photos. Identifications are a helpful guess, not professional advice — never handle wildlife you can't safely identify.
What’s new
Version 1.0.2 · Updated August 6, 2026
Your map is now yours. Dropping a public pin on a critter you found in your own back yard shouldn't feel like sharing your address — so the community map is gone. Your finds now appear only on the maps of friends you've given full access to. Friends come in two kinds: - Full friends see your finds on the map and in the Friends feed. - Dex friends see your collection, badges and points — but never where you found anything. You pick which one when you send a request, and whoever accepts can choose to share less than you asked for. Either of you can dial it back at any time; turning sharing up takes both of you. Also in this update: - Rebuilt Friends screen — search by name or username, see who's waiting on you, and find people through friends of friends - Your friends now live on your Dex page, with a badge when someone's waiting for a reply - Explore keeps your place when you come back from a find instead of jumping to the top - Leaderboard is still the place to discover new explorers worth adding If your profile was public before this update, the other public explorers are now your full friends — the same people who could already see your finds on the old map. You can change or remove any of them from the Friends screen.
