About Pocket Botanist: Plant ID Care

Point your camera at any plant to identify it in seconds, find out what is wrong with it, and know how to care for it, across 412,000 species. Names are matched against GBIF, the Global Biodiversity Information Facility, so you get the accepted botanical name rather than a guess. Plant IDs are free every day, and Premium starts with a free trial. Pocket Botanist looks after your houseplants and your garden. It knows your hardiness zone and your season, and what that means for the plants you are trying to grow. PLANT ID FROM PHOTOS Spotted something on a walk? Take a photo and find out before you get home. Identify flowers, houseplants, trees, succulents, herbs, vegetables, weeds, and garden plants, then see common and scientific names, confidence notes, identifying features, similar species, and useful care details. You can also look up a plant by name when you already know what it is. PLANT PROBLEM DIAGNOSIS Leaves turning yellow, or brown at the tips? Photograph the sick plant and find out why. Check spots, wilting, pests, disease, and other symptoms, then get likely causes, practical next steps, and follow-up care guidance so you know what to try next. Sign in to open a guided diagnosis chat that asks a few questions and helps you work through a problem step by step. WEED IDENTIFICATION Not sure whether it is a weed or a seedling worth keeping? Photograph it before you pull it. Find out what it is and whether it is a common weed. With Premium you can also see whether it is regulated or noxious where you live. CARE REMINDERS FOR EVERY PLANT Not sure what needs water this week? See what is due today, what is overdue, and what is coming up next, with gentle notifications so nothing slips through. Create watering, fertilizing, pruning, and repotting reminders for any plant you save. SAFETY FOR PETS AND FAMILY Check whether a plant is toxic to cats, dogs, or people, with clear severity notes. Spot poisonous lookalikes before you bring a plant home, so your pets and family stay safe. GARDEN AND GROWING Your hardiness zone is detected automatically, so planting windows, seasonal tasks, and monthly ideas match your climate instead of a generic calendar. Follow moon phase gardening tips for planting and harvesting, and see which plants support pollinators and local wildlife. Use the light meter to read a spot in lux, indoors on a windowsill or outdoors in full sun, then see which plants suit it. YOUR PLANT COLLECTION Save plants to your collection with photos and care history, then build care streaks and earn achievements as your garden grows. Keep a wishlist of the plants you want to grow next, so you have a plan when the season turns. Sign in to back up your collection and keep it in sync across your devices. POCKET BOTANIST PREMIUM Start with a free trial on our monthly and annual plans, with a lifetime option too. Premium gives you unlimited daily plant IDs and health checks, plus the tools to plan and care for a whole garden: • 20 chat messages a day instead of 3, for diagnosis and your saved plants • The full care calendar, with weather-aware reminders that adapt to each plant • Frost and heat alerts before rough weather arrives • Smart watering tuned to each pot, its material, your light, and the local weather • Garden zones with room-aware care • Propagation tracking, a growth journal, a map of your finds, and vacation mode • Deeper insights, and room for an unlimited collection Pocket Botanist uses Google's Gemini AI for identification, health checks, care guidance, and chat. AI results are estimates and can be wrong. Please don't rely on one alone when a plant might be toxic, or when a child or pet has touched it. When it matters, check with a local expert.
