About Sumi: Japan Travel Camera
Turn your Japan trip photos into keepsakes — the kanji of the places you visited, typeset in ink. Sumi reads the compass and your photo's GPS to identify which landmark you're facing. Then it sets the place name in refined Japanese typography: vertical or horizontal mincho, generous margins, warm off-white ink, a hairline rule, and a small Latin caption with the readable address. The result looks like a high-end travel poster — a souvenir you made yourself, not something bought at a gift shop. HOW IT WORKS Point your camera at a shrine gate, a tower, a historic street. Sumi detects the landmark — not where you're standing, but what you're looking at. Alternatively, import any GPS-tagged photo from your library. The kanji appears. Adjust the edge style. Save or share. WHAT MAKES SUMI DIFFERENT Sumi is not a translation app. The kanji is not there to be read — it is the art. A small Latin caption beneath it carries the sightseeing spot's name and address in a language you can actually read. Sumi is not a learning app. You do not need to know a single character of Japanese to use it. Sumi is a keepsake maker. The aesthetic is deliberate: Japanese poster typography, low contrast ink, generous breathing room, a quiet look that holds up when you get home. FEATURES - Compass + GPS landmark detection: identifies what you're photographing, not just where you're standing - In-app camera capture or photo library import (Exif GPS) - Vertical and horizontal mincho typesetting - Four edge styles: hairline rule, border, minimal, open - Warm off-white ink on the original photo — no white box, no overlay clutter - Latin caption with place name and address - Film grain and generous margins baked in FREE AND JAPAN TRIP PASS Sumi is free to use. A small watermark appears on saved images. The Japan Trip Pass (one-time purchase, 30 days, no auto-renewal) removes it — sized for a single trip, with no ongoing subscription. No account. No sign-in. Your photos stay on your device. Sumi. Ink on memory.
