About PaddleScramble

Twelve people turn up. Somebody has to work out who plays who, on which court, and who sits this one out. Then do it again every twenty minutes, fairly, while everyone waits. PaddleScramble does that in seconds. Say how many are playing and how many courts you have. Tap Start. The whole session appears: every round, every partner, every court, and who sits out — balanced so people play with everyone and nobody sits twice in a row. NO NAMES NEEDED Everyone gets a number, so you can read the schedule straight out across a noisy court: "Court 1, three and seven, against one and nine." It works when you don't know everybody, which at a drop-in is most of the time. Put names in if you want them — any of them, at any point, or none at all. Save it as a PDF, print it for the wall, or just hold up your phone. SCORING IS OPTIONAL Keep score and the standings look after themselves. Don't, and the app stays a schedule and nothing else. Most sessions only ever need the schedule. WHEN YOU WANT MORE There is a fuller setup behind the second button, for people running something regular: • Crazy Eights — a new partner every round, so everyone plays with everyone. 4 to 24 players. • Open Play Scramble — for drop-in sessions. Add walk-ins, put someone on a break, or drop a leaver between rounds, and the next round is drawn from whoever is actually on the floor. • Fixed Partner — pick your partner and keep them the whole way. • Team Scramble — two teams throughout, scored as two sets; if they split them, a Final Set decides it. • Pods — split a large group into 2 to 4 pods on their own courts, then a cross-pod playoff. END IT PROPERLY Finish with semifinals and a final. The bracket is drawn on screen and fills in as it is played, with consolation games so nobody sits out the finish and a game for third. WHEN IT DOESN'T GO TO PLAN • Someone leaves early — cover their remaining games in one tap • Someone turns up late — add them and they play the next round • A court frees up, or you lose one — in Open Play, add, remove or renumber courts mid-session • Change the play-to, a misspelled name, or how ties break, mid-session. Games already played keep the rules they were played under. SHARE IT Put the live scores on a web page your group can follow from their phones, or print the whole schedule for the wall. YOUR GROUP'S SEASON — PaddleScramble Premium If you play with the same people regularly, save them as a group and every session adds to its record: who is on top, who has won a championship, who is on a streak, and how every pair does together. There is a web page for the season too, so everyone can look without installing anything. PaddleScramble Premium is $9.99/month or $59.99/year. One subscription covers all your groups — the organiser subscribes and every device they have invited sees the season. Cancel any time; everything you have recorded stays visible. Drawing sessions is free, for as many as you like. No ads, ever, and no account to create. What’s new

Version 2.1 · Updated October 23, 2026

Bigger groups, fairer playoffs, and names that show. UP TO 48 PLAYERS: run sessions of 25 to 48 people, as one big group or in pods, and add walk-ins up to 48. Up to 24 stays free; 25 to 48 is part of PaddleScramble Premium, free for everyone through December 1, 2026. When a round has 7 or more games, iPhone and portrait iPad get a strip of court numbers to jump to any court, and iPad in landscape shows two columns. Above 24, the shared results picture is one per pod, or the top 16 for a single group with the rest in the app or on the live page. If someone leaves a one-group night above 24, the app offers to re-deal the rest of the night without them. MORE PEOPLE PLAY IN THE PLAYOFF: wherever a court is free, anyone without a game in the first playoff round plays first in the second (before, they sat out both), and with everyone present no court stands empty while four people wait. Consolation games show their court number in the app, on the printout and on the Live Share page. ONE CHAMPION: players share the crown only when they are also level on the tiebreak. NAMES THAT SHOW: at every text size, on iPhone and iPad, each name in the app and on the shared results picture shows at least its first 10 letters. Names shrink or wrap onto another line first; only in a very tight spot is one shortened after its 10th letter. On phones, a no-score round now gives each court two lines when the names would not fit on one line at a readable size, so names stay whole instead of shrinking. On scored games, the serve ball and the crown and fire drop under a player's name instead of squeezing it. OPEN PLAY MIXES ALL SESSION: new sessions spread partners and opponents across the whole session, and use the session's scores to even out teams where they can. Before, once scores were in, from round 7 it grouped people by level, which repeated partners and opponents. A session already under way when you update finishes the old way. FIXES - On a no-score night, adding someone who just arrived no longer re-deals the rounds already played; once the night is under way they join from the round after the one on screen. Keep playing there now stays on the round you are on. - Changing the playoff rules or the play-to so that a semifinal already under way counts as finished now puts the final on the schedule straight away. A score that cannot stand still has to be fixed first. - Drop worst now turns itself off when people would play different numbers of games (always in open play), and setup says why. - If the live page stops taking updates, the app now says so under the round bar: at once if the server refuses an update, or after three failed updates in a row. Your scores in the app are safe.
