About Japan Picture Book for Kids

Japan Picture Book for Kids is a picture-dictionary app for toddlers and preschoolers (ages 2+). Children tap realistic illustrations to hear each word read aloud — in English or Japanese — while exploring Japan, Japanese words, and everyday culture. It looks and feels like a real printed picture encyclopedia. ■ 1,250 words across 46 categories Animals, dinosaurs, vehicles, food, fruits, vegetables, sushi, fish, insects, flowers, space, musical instruments, hiragana, katakana, the alphabet, and much more. From everyday favorites to encyclopedia-worthy deep-sea creatures, there is always something new to discover. ■ Simple enough for little hands Tap a picture and hear its name — no menus, no tricky controls, nothing to get lost in. The あ/A button switches between Japanese and English at any time, making the app a gentle first introduction to Japanese for English-speaking families, or to English for Japanese-speaking families. ■ Packed with playful ways to learn - "Which one?" quiz: listen to a word, then find and tap it on the page. Wrong answers bring friendly hints — no penalties, ever - "What's that sound?" quiz: guess what makes the sound you hear, building listening skills - Sounds mode: tap to hear lifelike animal calls and vehicle sounds - Recording mode: listen to the example, then record your own voice and feel the "I said it!" moment - Voice mode: the book reads itself back in your child's own recorded voice - Pinch to zoom: enlarge any picture and study every little detail ■ Designed with parents in mind - No ads, ever - Recordings are stored only on the device and are never uploaded (optional iCloud backup can be turned on in settings) - Purchases and settings sit behind a parental gate, safe from curious taps - Works fully offline after download — perfect for flights and trips - Child profiles keep each sibling's recordings and progress separate ■ A picture book that keeps growing New words and categories are added through weekly and monthly updates — always at no extra cost. The book your child opens today keeps growing along with them. ■ Try 4 categories (122 words) for free Animals, vehicles, food, and hiragana are free to explore. To unlock everything, choose the plan that suits your family: a one-time Lifetime purchase that is yours forever, or a Monthly subscription. For first words, for a head start with a second language, for quiet quality time together — a gentle picture book the whole family will enjoy opening every day. What’s new

Version 1.1.13 · Updated September 24, 2026

- Voice Catch now listens the whole time the book is open Until now it only caught voices during the "Ready, go!" moment in Recording mode. Now it also picks up words your child says while browsing, or says a little late, and saves them to the Voice Inbox. You can listen later and move the keepers to the Voice Album. Long stretches of speech are saved in parts instead of being cut off. In Settings > Voice you can limit it to Recording mode only, or turn it off. Audio stays on the device, and listening stops when you return to Home. - "Heard words" added to caught voices Each clip in the inbox now shows a rough on-device transcript to help you tell the app's audio from your child's voice. It is only a guide, and small children's voices may not be transcribed correctly. - New "Seasons" category, and "Events" rebuilt The old "Seasons & Events" category is now two. "Seasons" adds 26 new words such as flowers, creatures and foods of spring, summer, autumn and winter. "Events" now focuses on 26 celebrations such as New Year, Hinamatsuri, Tanabata and sports day, with photos shown in rounded, circular or arched frames. - "Face" and "Body" pages are easier to see "Face" shows a larger face with a close-up photo card for all 12 words. A line from the card to the face appears only while the word is being read aloud. "Body" has larger front and back figures with bolder labels, dots and lines. - Refreshed photos The dining table, kitchen and park scenes in Everyday Life, the bullet train in the town scene, and the monorail have been redrawn. - Family names now play in quizzes and Recording mode Your chosen or recorded family names are used in the "Which one?" quiz and the "Ready, go!" example. Restoring from a backup with "Add" also merges family entries. - Other The sound, voice and video marks in picture corners no longer cover the picture. The "Tap to listen!" hint now appears once a day. Settings now lists the other picture-book apps in the series. - This version requires iOS 26 or later. We'd love to hear your feedback!
