About Songneer: Royalty-Free Music

Ever hear a song and wonder, "What makes this work?" Songneer tells you — then helps you build something new from public-domain building blocks. WHAT IT DOES Songneer is a public-domain inspiration engine for musicians, songwriters, and producers. Give it any song, and it reverse-engineers what makes the music tick: the melodic contour, harmonic progression, rhythmic feel, and tension arc. Then it searches 3,000+ public domain works — classical, folk, hymns, ragtime, and world music — to find pieces with a similar sound signature. Finally, it helps you compose a new piece using those public domain building blocks, so your new composition is built from public-domain material rather than copying the song you started with. HOW IT WORKS 1. ANALYZE — Import an audio file or search Apple Music. Songneer uses on-device ML to transcribe the audio into notes, identify the key and chords, detect instruments, and extract the song's four-dimensional sound signature. 2. COMPARE — See exactly how your song's contour, harmony, rhythm, and tension stack up against public domain matches, with side-by-side visual breakdowns. 3. BUILD — Mix dimensions from different sources. Take the melodic contour from a Bach piece, the rhythmic feel from a folk song, and the harmonic richness from a ragtime classic. Apply genre transforms — 25+ styles, from pop and jazz to lo-fi, cinematic, synthwave, chiptune, reggae, and raga. Adjust creativity sliders to control how far the composition departs from the originals. Or let Composer Classic write an all-new melody and chords from your song's character (key, tempo, meter, feel) — your song's notes aren't used — in three versions to choose from. 4. EXPORT — Preview your composition with multi-track MIDI playback (melody, chords, bass), review every proposed change, then export as audio (M4A) or a standard MIDI file ready for your DAW. WHY SONGNEER - Private by design. Analysis and composition run on-device — no accounts, and your audio files are never uploaded. (Optional Shazam song ID — off by default — sends a short audio fingerprint to Apple; Apple Music search uses Apple's services when you choose to use it.) - Built from public domain. Catalog building blocks are public-domain or CC0 works: traditional tunes and music published by 1930 whose composers died by 1955 (full scores: composers who died by 1930) — public domain in the US and in life+70 countries. - 3,000+ catalog entries — 2,100+ with melody, bass line and chords from the score's opening — spanning Renaissance, Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Folk, Hymns, Ragtime, and World traditions. - Real music theory. Not random generation — Songneer understands keys, scales, chord functions, voice leading, and tension curves. - Composer Classic. All-new pieces in the spirit of your song, in lyrical, energetic and dramatic versions. - 25+ genre transforms. Turn a Baroque melody into a pop anthem or a folk tune into an electronic track. - Audio & MIDI export. Share your finished track as audio, or bring the MIDI into GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton, or any DAW. WHO IT'S FOR - Songwriters looking for inspiration from the masters - Producers who want unique starting points for beats and arrangements - Music students studying song structure, harmony, and composition - Anyone curious about what makes their favorite songs work FREE & PRO Analyzing songs, browsing the catalog, and comparing sound signatures are free. Your first 5 compositions include every genre, plus 3 audio or MIDI exports — no time limit. After that, keep composing free in 6 genres, or get Songneer Pro — a one-time purchase, no subscription — for every genre and unlimited export. PRIVACY Songneer analyzes and composes on your device. Your audio is never uploaded, no data is collected, and no account is required. If you turn on Shazam song identification (off by default), a short audio fingerprint is sent to Apple to name the song. Your music stays yours.

What’s new

Version 1.4 · Updated October 18, 2026

• NEW — Composer Classic: Songneer writes an all-new piece in the spirit of your song. Choose from three versions — lyrical, energetic or dramatic — each with its own verse, chorus and ending, played in the genre you pick. Compose again for three fresh ones. Included in the trial and in Pro • New trial: your first 5 compositions include every genre and 3 exports — no time limit. Returning users get it too • After the trial, keep composing for free in 6 genres • Better-sounding compositions: a short band intro leads into the tune, every piece ends on its home key, the band stays under the melody, and melodies keep their shape and key in every genre — chromatic notes (like Für Elise's opening) stay as written and bass lines follow the real chord • Better tempo detection for rock and pop songs • Your own music keeps playing when you open the app; previews pause for calls and when headphones are unplugged Questions or ideas?
