SolarDial: Sunrise & Sunset

SolarDial is a sun almanac for your iPhone. Save a place — pick a city, enter coordinates or use your current location — and see when the sun rises and sets, when solar noon falls, and when the golden and blue hours begin and end. Every sun time is computed on your iPhone from the place's coordinates with the standard NOAA solar equations. There is no account and nothing to sign in to. In the app's tests, sunrise and sunset for London, New York and Reykjavík match published almanac times to within three minutes; close to the poles the times are less exact. WHAT YOU GET • Today — a live countdown to the next sun event, plus sunrise, solar noon, sunset, day length and the golden and blue hour windows for your place. • Dial — drag through the day and watch the sun's altitude and azimuth change on a horizon dial, with a 16-point compass reading. • Places — save cities from a built-in list, enter coordinates with a UTC offset, or add your current location. Two places are free. • Home Screen widget — small or medium. It shows your place, sunrise and sunset, and says when golden hour is on. The medium size adds the next sun event with its time, and the day length. • Shadow length (Pro) — set an object's height and see how long its shadow is at the time you pick on the dial. • Daylight Trend (Pro) — a chart of how the day grows or shrinks over two weeks, a month, a quarter or a year, with the change since yesterday. GOLDEN AND BLUE HOUR SolarDial counts golden hour while the sun is between 4° below and 6° above the horizon, and blue hour while it is between 6° and 4° below. Times are shown in each place's own time zone, and the built-in cities follow daylight saving. FREE AND PRO Today, the Dial, two saved places and the widget are free. SolarDial Pro is a one-time in-app purchase that unlocks unlimited places, the shadow length calculator and Daylight Trend. YOUR DATA No account and no ads. Your places are stored on your iPhone. Location is used only when you tap “Use my location”: it is read once and saved as a place, never in the background. Purchases go through the App Store.
