About Wordnauts: Word Game for Kids

Wordnauts is a word-guessing game your kid will actually want to play, and one you can hand over without a second thought. No ads, no in-app purchases, no accounts, no data collection. Each round, your child guesses a secret word letter by letter. Tiles light up gold when a letter lands in the right spot, blue when it's in the word but somewhere else, and stay dark when it's not. One color legend across every world means kids learn it once. A quick hands-on tutorial teaches the colors, letter-dragging, and power-ups on the very first word. ▸ SIX THEMED WORLDS Animal Kingdom, Kitchen Counter, Nature Trail, Star Mission, Around the House, and Sight Word School. Each has its own hand-drawn paper-art world and its own word collection. ▸ FIVE GRADE LEVELS, TUNED GRADE BY GRADE Kindergarten through 4th grade. Words, hints, and definitions are tuned grade by grade, not one list for everyone. Switch grades anytime, and each grade keeps its own progress. ▸ HINTS WHEN THEY NEED THEM Up to 3 optional text hints appear after a few wrong tries, controlled by a toggle in the player's profile. Words are read aloud on the results screen and in the mini-games, so early readers can follow along. ▸ POWER-UPS, NOT PRESSURE Freebie reveals one letter. Zap clears three wrong letters from the keyboard. No timers in the word game, no notifications, no pressure to come back. ▸ ARCADE MINI-GAMES (ON BY DEFAULT, PARENT-CONTROLLED) Four spelling arcades: Astro Dash (catch falling letters with your rocket), Kroi's Animal Collector (herd animals into their pens), Kitchen Quest (run and jump to collect letters), and Gloria's Pets (care for sleepy Gloria's pets to spell words). Free and unlimited, with no ads or purchases. Setup asks whether you want them on, and a grown-up can switch them off in Settings at any time. ▸ PRACTICE AT THEIR OWN PACE Word Scrambler, Clue Quest, and Sky's Shop let kids unscramble letters and spell words with no clock running. Always available, no stars required. ▸ ADD YOUR OWN WORDS Type this week's spelling list on our website, or snap a photo of it, and about a minute later it's a playable pack with hints, a definition, an example sentence, and audio for every word. The pack gets a short code like WAT-FROG. A grown-up types it into the app once and the words show up under My Words, tracked per kid. Teachers hand out 1 class code in September and every pack they add after that arrives on its own. The app still has no accounts. The website is for grown-ups. ▸ BUILT FOR THE KIDS CATEGORY No ads. No tracking. No third-party SDKs. No accounts. We don't collect any personal data. A grown-up check protects word packs, player edits, the mini-game switch, and every link out of the app. It's a math question by default, or Face ID or your passcode if you turn that on in Settings. ▸ MULTIPLE KIDS, ONE DEVICE Up to six local players per device, each with their own grade level, avatar, and progress. Pass-the-iPad and sibling play just work. WHO IT'S FOR Kids in kindergarten through 4th grade who are learning to read, building vocabulary, or bringing home a spelling list every Monday. Parents and grandparents who want a relaxed word game to play alongside a kid. Teachers who want a calm classroom tool and a way to get the week's words in front of the whole class. WHO IT'S NOT FOR Anyone wanting leaderboards, in-app purchases, or pressure to come back. We don't do any of that. MADE WITH MY KIDS, FOR KIDS LIKE YOURS Wordnauts started as a way to help my own kids, Sky and Dash, practice sight words without pop-ups, ads, or noisy distractions. They came up with mini-game ideas, voted on which ones made the cut, tested worlds, and told me plainly when something was boring or confusing. We brainstormed over breakfast and dinner, and a lot of what you see is their call. Every word, hint, and definition in the built-in worlds has been reviewed by a real person. The words you add are yours. Questions or feedback? [email protected]

What’s new

Version 1.2 · Updated September 14, 2026

ADD YOUR OWN WORDS - Turn a spelling list into Wordnauts puzzles at portal.wordnauts.com. Type the words or photograph the sheet. About a minute later every word has hints, a definition, an example sentence, and audio. - Each pack gets a short mission code like WAT-PEA. A grown-up types it once, under Settings > My Words > Word packs & shelves, and the pack appears in a new My Words section. Progress is tracked per kid. - Teachers can put packs on a class with 1 code for the year. Parents can make a family shelf that holds their own packs plus the teacher's class. Anything added later shows up on the device by itself. - Kids can't add or change packs. The app still has no accounts and sends nothing about your child anywhere. ALSO IN THIS UPDATE - Gloria's Pets, a new mini-game. Care for sleepy Gloria's pets to spell words. - The grown-up check can use Face ID or your passcode instead of a math question. Turn it on in Settings. - Bigger text sizes now fit everywhere, from the home screen to the mini-games.
