About WhatNext — Movie Picks

Name a film you loved. WhatNext. finds the ones worth your night. Your taste profile is built on the phone itself, from the films you rate or imported from another tracker. No account, no sign-up, none of your data sent to a server. The recommendation engine reads for taste, not for trends. Your picks, calibrated to you. HOW IT WORKS Rate a handful of films you already know. WhatNext. builds a taste profile from your choices: a model of what you actually enjoy. Every recommendation flows from that model. The more you rate, the sharper it gets. YOUR ALMANAC Every rating, every watchlist entry, every skip shapes your Almanac, a living record of your taste. See your top genres, your taste archetype, and a radar chart of what you gravitate toward. NO ACCOUNTS, NO ADS WhatNext. stores everything on your device. No sign-up. No tracking. No selling your data. Export your full profile anytime and take it with you.

What’s new

Version 1.1.0 · Updated October 1, 2026

- Algorithm improvements: recommendations now hold more consistently to your taste when it's narrowly focused on one genre, especially in your first few ratings. Plus other improvements. - Bring your ratings with you: import your movie ratings from Letterboxd and TV Time. Pick the files from the export those services give you, choose where your star ratings map into Enjoyed / Okay / Not for me, and your taste profile picks up years of history in one go. Ratings keep their original dates, imports never overwrite your existing ratings unless you say so, and anything not yet in the catalog is listed so you can re-import it later. Find it in Settings under Import. - A refreshed bottom navigation bar that floats above your content instead of sitting flush against the screen edge, for a cleaner, more modern look. Search now lives in the navigation bar too, and the search bar itself sits at the bottom of the screen within thumb reach instead of at the top. - Fixed a rough tap animation where buttons briefly flashed a gray rectangle instead of the app's usual smooth feedback. - Added a Support section to Settings with a direct way to send feedback and rate the app. - Added a one-time, brief in-app prompt asking how recommendations have been landing after you've rated a few more films, with an easy path to leave a rating or send feedback either way. - Films with more than one director now show every director, not just the first. - Dislikes now steer recommendations more accurately: marking a film in a genre you otherwise love as Not for me no longer pushes that whole genre out of your feed. - Your discovery feed now refills on its own when you reach the end of a batch, instead of stopping until you switch tabs. - General algorithm and recommendation feed improvements. - General UI/UX and data fixes and improvements.
