About NGC RedVox: Audio Sky Atlas
There is a faint glow in your eyepiece. You know its catalog number, but what are you looking at? How far has that light traveled? NGC Sky Atlas puts object information within earshot. Search for a target, open its details and listen, with less time spent reading a bright screen. Built by an amateur astronomer for nights at the telescope, it combines a deep-sky reference with practical observing filters. EXPLORE THE CATALOG Browse 7,905 deep-sky catalog entries and 15,537 stars down to magnitude 7.0. All 110 Messier objects are included, alongside NGC, IC and Melotte entries, galaxies, nebulae, clusters and double stars. The catalog also preserves 499 historical NGC entries with notes explaining duplicates, misidentifications and missing objects. English object information includes catalog specifications and, where available, longer descriptions. Images can be opened for a closer look. Search by catalog number, common name, constellation or words in a description. LISTEN IN ENGLISH OR JAPANESE Choose English, Japanese or your system language. The interface, search and narration follow that choice. English narration uses the voices available on your device. Japanese narration offers a choice of voices, with downloadable audio for supported descriptions. Use the microphone or double-tap to start voice search. Say a constellation name or a catalog number such as M31 or NGC 224, then choose a result. PLAN YOUR OBSERVING SESSION Combine filters for constellation, object type, catalog, magnitude, angular size, double-star separation and visibility. Set your observing location, telescope aperture and sky conditions to narrow the list. Sort the results and return to recently viewed objects through history. MADE FOR DARK SKIES The red-on-black night mode keeps the interface subdued. A daytime appearance is also available. Large controls and a compact workflow help you spend more time observing. OPTIONAL SKY AND TELESCOPE MODES Point the rear camera clearly upward to look up nearby constellations. Sensor status is shown on screen and tracking can be stopped directly. Connect a compatible Nexus DSC or LX200 telescope controller over Wi-Fi to find objects near its pointing direction. These experimental features are optional; a telescope connection is not required to browse the catalog. OFFLINE REFERENCE Catalog data, descriptions and images are included in the app. Download Japanese audio before traveling to use it offline. Speech recognition, purchases and audio downloads may require an internet connection. TRY IT, THEN UNLOCK ONCE Download for free and open details for up to 10 objects. A single non-consumable in-app purchase unlocks the full catalog's details, images, narration and observing tools. There is no monthly or annual subscription. The purchase is shared across the Japanese and English interfaces. SOURCES AND PRIVACY Catalog information draws on sources including OpenNGC, HYG, VizieR and WDS; descriptions draw primarily on Wikipedia. Images include material from Pan-STARRS, DSS2, Wikipedia, NASA and JWST. Source credits are available in the app. Location is used on your device for observing-site and sky-direction calculations. Header image: NGC 3324, “Cosmic Cliffs,” observed in infrared by JWST/NIRCam. Image: NASA, ESA, CSA, STScI. Resized and cropped for display. https://science.nasa.gov/asset/webb/cosmic-cliffs-in-the-carina-nebula-nircam-image/
