Psalm Song

Psalm Song is a complete musical setting of the Book of Psalms: all 150, set to music by Paul Whitehorn, for iPhone, iPad and Apple TV. THE STORY BEHIND THE WORK I was saved with a guitar in my hand. In that same moment, I was called by God and commanded to magnify Him. I began working on these settings of the Psalms that very day, and the work has been a labor of love ever since. What you hold in this app is the fruit of years of recording, translating, studying, and singing. Volume I was the first 25 Psalms made available to others. Now the work is complete: all 150 Psalms are recorded and in this app. THE PSALTER IS A SONGBOOK The Psalter is the largest book in Scripture, and for three thousand years it has been the prayer book and hymnbook of God's people. This app returns the Psalms to sound, with the Scripture beside every song, classified according to a structural apparatus drawn from the author's thesis Psalms Are Songs Not Poems. WHAT THESE SONGS ARE These songs are a summary and a commentary on the Psalms, not a word-for-word translation. No song can hold every idea in a psalm. That is why the Scripture is always beside the music: so you can read the psalm itself, in full, while you listen. Psalms 1 to 25 appear in the author's own translation from the Hebrew, paired line by line with the lyrics. Psalms 26 to 150 are shown in the World English Bible. FEATURES All 150 Psalms in six volumes, each with its number and its name Keeps playing: each Psalm rolls into the next, with the app closed or the phone locked Scripture, Lyrics, or both side by side The Hebrew text of every psalm, verse by verse beside the English Lyrics for all 150 songs Moving backgrounds while you listen: fireplace, Christmas, rain and cathedral Psalm videos and a share link for every psalm Playlists for your day: Morning Coffee, While Working, Studying, On the Road, At the Gym, For the Kids, Quiet Time, Sunday Praise, Hard Days, Sleep and more Browse by genre: rock, metal, folk, country, techno, rap, pop, orchestral, ambient, worship and spoken word Make your own playlists Favorites, Recently Played and search across the whole Psalter Daily Psalm of the Day Structural form classification including Cantillated, Didactic, and Composite A complete reading of the author's thesis Personal progress tracking with a learned and unlearned toggle Also on Apple TV, with the Scripture on screen while the music plays THE THESIS, BUILT IN The apparatus that organizes this work is drawn from a thesis arguing that the Psalter contains two functional types. Cantillated psalms are built for communal vocal enactment before God. Didactic psalms are built for instruction directed to the hearer. The full thesis is included in the app, divided into nine readable sections, with audio of the author reading the preface.
