About OSPOS

Turn the iPhone and iPad you already own into a full cash register. Cash sales are free forever. For cards, connect your own Stripe account and OSPOS adds 1% on top of Stripe's rate — no monthly fee, no contract, no card reader to buy. NEW — YOUR IPAD IS NOW THE REGISTER OSPOS runs on iPad, laid out for a counter: your categories down one side, the menu grid in the middle, the running order on the right. Everything is where your thumb already is. NEW — TWO DEVICES, ONE REGISTER Pair an iPad and an iPhone and OSPOS splits the register in two. Ring the order on the iPad; the iPhone faces the customer, mirrors the cart line by line as you build it, and takes the tap. No extra hardware, no extra fee. - The customer watches their order total as it's rung, then taps their own card - Pair once with a four-digit code; the two devices reconnect on their own - Either device can be the register — swap roles whenever it suits the counter - Every message between the two is signed, so nothing nearby can read your cart TAKE CARDS WITH NO CARD READER Tap to Pay on iPhone accepts contactless cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets directly on your iPhone. Nothing to plug in, nothing to charge, nothing to lose behind the counter. NEW — RUN A CREW Invite your staff by email and each of them takes payments on their own iPhone, into your account. Every sale is recorded under the name of whoever rang it, so you can see the day broken down by person. Your tax rate and receipt wording follow them, so a new hire's first sale is correct without them configuring anything. NEW — SEND TICKETS TO THE KITCHEN Turn an old iPad or iPhone into a kitchen screen. Paid orders arrive as numbered tickets, colour-coded by how long they have been waiting, with an ALL DAY count of everything still to make. Tap to start, ready and clear. No printer and no extra subscription — it is part of the app. BUILT FOR REAL COUNTERS - Modifier groups — size, milk, extras, with required and optional choices - Mark an item sold out for the day without deleting it - Discounts and comps on the whole order, with the tax handled correctly - Per-item tax, so packaged retail and prepared food can live on one menu - Edit a line after it's rung, straight from the cart WORKS WHEN THE INTERNET DOESN'T Cash sales need no connection at all. Card payments queue and settle themselves when you're back online. The register does not stop because the Wi-Fi did. KNOW YOUR DAY Today's takings, transaction count, average sale, and the cash/card split. On iPad you also get an hourly chart of when the money actually came in, and the day's transactions beside it. Export any date range to CSV. RECEIPTS Email receipts, or none at all. No customer is ever forced to hand over an address to buy a coffee. PRICING Cash mode is free forever and needs no account, no card, and no trial. For card payments you connect your own Stripe account and keep it. You pay Stripe their normal in-person rate, and OSPOS adds 1% on top. That 1% is the whole of what OSPOS costs. No monthly fee. No minimum. No contract. No hardware to buy or rent. If you stop using OSPOS you keep your Stripe account and your customer history. NEW — CASH DISCOUNT PRICING Post one price and offer a lower one for cash. OSPOS shows both to the customer before they choose and records which one was charged. OPEN SOURCE OSPOS is open source under the MIT licence. You can read exactly what the app does with your money and your customers' data, because the code is public. Requires iOS 16.0 or later. Tap to Pay on iPhone requires iPhone XS or later. Card payments are currently available to merchants in the United States.

What’s new

Version 1.4.1 · Updated October 15, 2026

WHAT IS NEW IN THIS BUILD One feature: a kitchen screen. A spare iPad or iPhone in the kitchen shows paid orders as tickets. Plus a shop can now hold several paired devices at once, and the iPad layouts have been reworked. MOST OF THE APP NEEDS NO ACCOUNT OSPOS works as a cash register with no account, no sign-in and no network. Build a menu, ring up an order, take cash, email a receipt, see the day's sales. You can review the majority of this build without signing in at all. REVIEWING THE KITCHEN SCREEN — PLEASE READ, IT IS OFF BY DEFAULT Kitchen tickets do nothing until they are switched on, and switching them on is one toggle: Settings > Send tickets to the kitchen With it off, the app behaves exactly as the previous version. With it on, any order you pay for appears as a ticket. A kitchen screen is a second device, so seeing tickets arrive needs two. With one device you can still switch the setting on, ring up and pay for an order, and confirm the app is unchanged otherwise. HOW TO LEAVE THE KITCHEN SCREEN — IMPORTANT A device set to Kitchen screen (or to Reader) replaces the whole app with one full-screen surface and no tab bar. That is deliberate: it is mounted on a wall or handed to a customer, and a stray tap must not navigate away from it. To get out: PRESS AND HOLD THE TOP-LEFT CORNER of the screen for about a second. A menu appears with "Exit kitchen mode", which returns the device to the normal app. The same gesture works on the customer-facing Reader screen. This is the only way out by design, and we would rather you knew than discovered it. PAIRING TWO DEVICES Settings > Pair a device. One device is the Counter (where you ring up), the others are a Reader (customer-facing) or a Kitchen screen. Both devices show four digits; you confirm they match ON THE REGISTER FIRST, then on the other device. The second device's Confirm button stays dim until the register has confirmed — that is the intended order, not a bug. Pairing uses the local network, which is why iOS asks for Local Network permission. Nothing is sent to us; the devices talk directly to each other. Info.plist declares three Bonjour services, and a fourth thing worth saying plainly: `_ospos-sync._tcp` and `_ospos-sync._udp` are Apple's Multipeer Connectivity, which carries pairing between two Apple devices with no router needed. `_ospos-lan._tcp` is a direct connection between devices on the same Wi-Fi, added in this build so a kitchen screen need not be an Apple device. Every frame on it is encrypted end to end between the two devices; the shop's Wi-Fi carries nothing readable and nothing reaches our servers. PAYMENTS — PLEASE READ BEFORE TESTING A CARD The demo merchant is connected to a LIVE Stripe account, so: - Test card numbers will NOT work. Live Stripe rejects them. - Test mode cannot be enabled for this account. The server refuses it for any account with a connected Stripe account. - Tap to Pay on iPhone has no card-number field. It accepts only a physical contactless card or a device wallet. - The demo merchant is capped at $1.00 per transaction so an accidental real-card tap cannot move meaningful money. Cash payments have none of these constraints and exercise the full order, receipt, kitchen-ticket and sales flow. NO NEW PERMISSIONS OR DATA COLLECTION This build requests no permissions the previous version did not. Local Network was already required for the two-device register in 1.3. Kitchen tickets carry an order number, item names and modifiers — no customer data, no prices, and nothing leaves the merchant's own devices. Privacy nutrition labels are unchanged.
