About BG Trainer A0

BG Trainer is a focused grammar drill app for absolute beginners learning Bulgarian. Designed for Russian and Ukrainian speakers (East Slavic background) starting at A0 level. WHAT YOU PRACTICE • Verb "to be" (съм/си/е/сме/сте/са) • Possession verbs имам / искам / мога • Definite articles (-ът, -та, -то, -те) • Grammatical gender — masculine, feminine, neuter • Plural forms — regular and irregular • Possessive pronouns • Negation • Question word order with particle "ли" • Numerals, time, dates • Present perfect tense • Food, taste, restaurant vocabulary HOW IT WORKS • 8 progressive lessons (L1–L8) • 250 drills and over 4000 questions across 12 formats — multiple choice, keyboard input, sentence building, particle insertion, matching pairs, paradigm tables, timed quizzes • A round of three short games in a row • Instant feedback after every answer with the correct form and a short rule • Weak and long-unpracticed items come up first, and a mistake returns later in the same session • Mastery tracking per item, session history and progress charts BUILD THE SENTENCE YOURSELF Every lesson carries a production drill: you read the translation and produce the Bulgarian sentence. The scaffolding fades as the course advances — labelled roles and a word bank at first, then bare blanks, then an empty line, and in the last lessons you type the whole sentence. CLEAR THE FIRST TIME • A worked example sits above every question, so the shape of the expected answer is never a guess • The hint and the verb-form table open from the header and stay out of the play area • Four text sizes, following the iOS system setting by default INTERFACE • Russian or Ukrainian UI (your choice) • Three pace presets: quick (3 questions), standard (5), long (8) • Light theme tuned for focused study • Works offline — all content bundled, no account required ALL INCLUDED • All 8 lessons (L1–L8) included — free, no in-app purchases • No subscriptions, no ads, no tracking PRIVACY All learning progress is stored on your device. We do not collect, transmit, or sell any personal data. OPEN SOURCE BG Trainer is open source — browse the code, report issues, or contribute: https://github.com/korchasa/bg-trainer

What’s new

Version 1.2 · Updated October 15, 2026

New drills on verb aspect. Lesson 6 teaches the four ways a perfective verb is formed: dropping -ва-/-ава-/-ява-, the -на suffix, a prefix, and a changed stem. Alongside them come a typing drill, aspect-pair matching, choosing the aspect by a time marker ("всеки ден" or "утре"), and future-tense paradigms where "се" sits between "ще" and the verb. Lesson 7 adds the aspect pairs from the shopping topic, the aspect choice after "ще", and six more future-tense paradigms. Every task now asks for a Bulgarian form rather than the name of a rule. Instead of naming a noun's gender, you add the right article and work out the gender from the ending yourself. The conjugation-number question is gone: conjugation is already practised through the forms. The app now has 250 drills, and the App Store shows its real languages, Russian and Ukrainian.
